MELANIE People in the Front Row

Legendary singer songwriter Melanie Safka shot to stardom when she stepped onto the stage at Woodstock in 1969. She’s had a legendary career spanning more than 40 years including her signature song Candles in the Rain (Lay Down, Lay Down) and the number one hit Brand New Key (Roller Skate song).

Performing all her hits and some new compositions all woven together with witty stories of a career that is nothing short of extraordinary, Melanie will be accompanied by her son Beau Jarred Schekeryk on guitar, Andrew Worboys on piano, Dave Hatch on drums and Tina Harris on bass.

Enjoy an intimate performance with the singer who won Australia’s heart with a brand new pair of roller skates over 40 years ago.

Famed for its sophisticated nightlife, the iconic Paris Lido has been home to cabaret’s elite: Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Shirley Maclaine, Liza Minnelli and Noel Coward. For five years from 2005 Nin headlined at the Lido in the glamorous revue, Bonheur. She introduced her audiences to the longings, struggles and heartaches of Lola Lola with Nin as mistress and muse.

In this intimate tribute, Nin and her trio will transport you to the heart of Paris with songs from Brel, Legrand, Gainsbourg, Piazzolla, Grace Jones and Kurt Weill. If you love cabaret, you’ll love Caroline Nin.

THE FACTORYHilarious and heartfelt, this vibrant funk-fuelled musical weaves a romantic narrative and clever lyrics into a tribute to the courage of the Pacific peoples who came to Auckland during the 1970s.

Opening with a powerful call to ancestral roots The Factory follows the story of Losa arriving in Aukilani with her father. A young Samoan woman with big dreams and hopes for a brighter future, she is set to work in a South Auckland textile factory, but each time the factory bell rings, she feels further away from her home and her aspirations.

This full-scale uplifting musical features an original score, slick choreography, and a dazzling array of exuberant and soulful songs from disco to soul and Pacific roots accompanied by a dynamic live band.

ANDREY LEBEDEV & SYDNEY GUITAR TRIOFirst Half Winner of the 2012 Adelaide International Guitar Competition, Andrey Lebedev returns home to grace the stage with his explosive skill, in this special recital performance. AUSTRALIAN STRING QUARTET WITH PEPE ROMERO, MÁXIMO PUJOL TRIO, SLAVA GRIGORYAN Plus Special Guests Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra

This exclusive gala brings magnificent works for guitar and strings to the Festival Theatre stage.

The program features Boccherini’s beloved Quintetto No. 4 Fandango, with world renowned Spanish guitarist Pepe Romero as soloist. Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan will play The Garden of Forking Paths, written for him and string quartet by Shaun Rigney and inspired by Argentine poet Jorge Luis Borges.

Finally, Argentina’s contemporary tango virtuosos, the Máximo Pujol Trio play Pujol’s own sensuous and romantic suite for strings, guitar and bandoneon, Luminosa de Buenos Aires.

The concert will open with a dynamic performance by the inaugural Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra.
