3 steps to beginning learning on your online course

There are three simple steps to beginning learning on your online course. Step 1: Activate your user account Step 2: Find the online learning website and enrol on your course in it Step 3: Update your email in the online learning website

This guide shows you how to complete these steps so that you can start using your online learning course.

Step 1

Activate your user account

In this section, you will learn how to activate your user account so that you can access your

online learning course.

1. Activate your Bournville College user account As a student on a course at the college, you will be given a student account. You will use this account to access college resources, such as Moodle@Bournville. Moodle@Bournville is a dedicated website for online learning at Bournville College. It provides areas for online courses which contain information and learning materials to assist you in your studies. As Moodle@Bournville is a website, it is available to any you anywhere and at any time as long as you have access to the internet. The college will send you your Bournville College student account details via email. For security reasons, your account is not active when you first receive it. So, you will need to activate your account. There is a quick and easy way to do this. You will log-in with the log-in details which the college has sent you and then change your password: this will activate your account. This section shows you how to activate your account.

Step 1. Go to the account activation link Go to the Bournville College webmail log-in page at the following web address:

https://webmail.bournville.ac.uk/owa

Step 2. Log-in

You will then see the log-in screen.

Log-in with the Username and Password which have been sent to you (via email) by the college.

Step 3. Change your password You will then be asked to change your password. Change your password to something that is meaningful to you.

You will now have activated your account. Make a note of your log-in details as you will need them each time you log-in to your online course on the Moodle@Bournville website.

NOTE: Password Change Bournville College is committed to safeguarding our students. Part of this is the security of our IT systems. To help facilitate this, we periodically require our students to change their password. This usually happens approximately every 90 days. If you try to log-in to Moodle@Bournville and cannot, it will probably be that the college IT system requires you to change your password. When this is required, you can use the above process to change your password.

Step 2

Find the website and enrol on your course

In this section, you will learn how to find the website which contains your online learning course (which is called Moodle@Bournville).

You will also learn how to find your course in the website and how to enrol on it so that you can access your online learning resources.

2. Find Moodle@Bournville You will now need to find the Moodle@Bournville website. Remember to have your log-in details close to hand: you will need them each time you log-in to Moodle@Bournville.

Step 1. Go to Moodle@Bournville Go to Moodle@Bournville at the following web address:

http://moodle.bournville.ac.uk Clicking on the link will take you to the front page of Moodle@Bournville. Another simple way to find Moodle@Bournville is to search for “Moodle Bournville” in Google. The first result that comes up will be a direct link to the front page of Moodle@Bournville. Tip: You could bookmark or favourite the Moodle@Bournville website so that you have a quick and easy way of accessing it in the future.

3. Log-in to Moodle@Bournville You will now need to log-in to the Moodle@Bournville website. You will use the log-in details which were sent to you via email.

Step 1. Log-in to Moodle@Bournville Enter your log-in details into the fields of the log-in box, and then click the Login button. You will now have logged in to Moodle@Bournville.

You will be able to tell that you have logged in because your name will be displayed in the top right hand corner of the Moodle@Bournville page.

4. Find and enrol on your course in Moodle@Bournville When you have logged in to Moodle@Bournville for the first time, you will need to find your course and enrol on it. As you will see, this enrolment is a ‘one time only’ action. You will only need to do this the first time that you login: afterwards, you will not need to enrol again and you will be provided with a fast method for accessing your course.

Step 1. Click on the Apps course link Click the picture link on the front page of Moodle@Bournville to go to the Mobile Phone Applications [apps] for Business course area.

This will start to open up the course, but you will need to enrol on it first.

Step 2. Enrol on the course You will now need to enrol on your course. You will need to enter an enrolment key to enter the course. The enrolment key is: EsfC322Ncfe (Please Note: You will only have to use this key this first time that you access the course. After this, Moodle will remember you and you will not have to use this enrolment key again.)

Enter the enrolment key in the Enrolment key field. Click on the Enrol me button.

You will now be enrolled on your course in Moodle@Bournville and will be able to see its contents.

There is now a quicker way to find your course!

In the future, you won’t have to do all of this again.

Moodle remembers who you are and gives you a quick way to get to your course.

The next section explains how to do this.

4. The ‘Quick Way’ to go to your course Now that you are enrolled on your course, each time you log in Moodle@Bournville gives you a quick and easy way to go to your course. Moodle@Bournville does this through the My courses page. This is your own personal page in Moodle which contains direct links to the courses that you have enrolled on.

Step 1. Go to your My courses page There is a dropdown menu along the top of the Moodle@Bournville page. Go to the Courses menu, and click on the My courses link from the dropdown menu which appears.

This will open your My Moodle page which contains a direct link to the course which you are enrolled on. Click on the title of your course to go directly to your course. You will now be inside your course area.

Step 3

Update your email in the website

In this section, you will learn how to change your email in the website so that your tutor can send you messages from your online learning course.

5. Update your email in Moodle@Bournville Your tutor may wish to contact you by email through Moodle. In order for this to happen, you will need to update your email address in Moodle@Bournville with the email address which you wish to use. You can do this by updating your profile.

Step 1. Open the My Home bar You can access the link to edit your profile by opening the My Home bar. Click on the arrow next to your user name.

This will open your My Home bar. The My Home bar contains links which you can use to work within Moodle, including an Edit profile link which will allow you to edit your profile to change your email address in Moodle@Bournville.

Click the arrow to the right of your username

Step 2. Go to Edit profile Click on the Edit profile link.

This will open your profile so that you can edit it. The Email address field contains your email address. Change your email address by typing your email address in this field.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Update profile button to save your changes.

You will now have saved your email address.

And that’s it!

You now have access to your online learning course.
