WINTER // 2013 ATTERS Hi everyone and welcome to Moo Matters. I am very happy that Council has adopted the City’s new Strategic Community Plan – Building a Future Together, four–year Corporate Business Plan and the Annual Budget. This is a significant and important milestone for our organisation. The City’s new Strategic Community Plan builds on the successes of our previous strategic plans and is supported by a four-year corporate business plan, which sets out the actions we will take as an organisation over the next four years so that with our community and stakeholders we can build a future together. As part of our Integrated Framework, Council also adopted the following key informing strategies: Workforce Management Plan Asset Management Policy Asset Management Strategy Long Term Financial Plan In adopting these important strategies Council expressed their support and appreciation not only to those staff directly involved in the preparation of these documents, but to everyone who works at the City of Wanneroo. As your Chief Executive Officer I would also like to personally extend my appreciation to the entire City of Wanneroo team, we should be very proud of what we have achieved for our community as an organisation. I am now excited to work with you to deliver on the promises we have made to our community, in particular over the next four years, as we implement the City’s Corporate Business Plan. As I’m sure you are all aware, the City has been working hard to improve the level of employee safety in the workplace. I would like to take this opportunity to provide an update on how we are progressing towards this goal. A number of positive initiatives have been underway for some time now including: High risk areas working groups, OSH Training for Leaders, Increased focus on hazard reporting and, The engagement of an external OSH consultant to work with the City. The City has made significant strides over the past 18 months, with 26 fewer injuries than this time last year reported into myosh, the number of hazard reports in the month of May approximately 600% higher than the previous month and a new City record, and the number of open workers compensation claims also down significantly from this time last year. This clearly demonstrates that our hard work is having a positive impact and making a difference. The City still has a long way to go, but with the continued effort and commitment shown by everyone so far, there is no doubt we will achieve the goal of ensuring all staff come to work knowing the City values their safety and will do everything it can to ensure they return home to their friends and families fit and healthy. Well done everyone. Daniel DAN’S debrief

WINTER // 2013ATTERS

Hi everyone and welcome to Moo Matters.

I am very happy that Council has adopted the City’s new Strategic Community Plan – Building a Future Together, four–year Corporate Business Plan and the Annual Budget. This is a significant and important milestone for our organisation. The City’s new Strategic Community Plan builds on the successes of our previous strategic plans and is supported by a four-year corporate

business plan, which sets out the actions we will take as an organisation over the next four years so that with our community and stakeholders we can build a future together.

As part of our Integrated Framework, Council also adopted the following key informing strategies:

• Workforce Management Plan

• Asset Management Policy

• Asset Management Strategy

• Long Term Financial Plan

In adopting these important strategies Council expressed their support and appreciation not only to those staff directly involved in the preparation of these documents, but to everyone who works at the City of Wanneroo.

A number of positive initiatives have been underway for some time now including:

• High risk areas working groups,

• OSH Training for Leaders,

• Increased focus on hazard reporting and,

• The engagement of an external OSH consultant to work with the City.

Welcome to the City... Commencing June to August 2013

Toyah’s Tropical WeddingOn Friday 15 March, Toyah Tinworth, Coordinator Healthy Communities, married her high school sweetheart George McCarthy, on beautiful Boracay Island, Philippines.

In total 70 family members and friends spent a week enjoying the many luxuries the island had to offer including a pre-wedding boat trip.

The wedding ceremony was held at a local church with the reception on Shangri-la’s private beach. Guests partied the night away with special treats including fire dancers, fireworks and the showing of a surprise movie trailer capturing the day’s events.

The newlyweds and guests then travelled to the surfing island of Siargao, with the honeymooners going on to Cebu City, and ending their month long trip in Singapore.

Although the idea to run a marathon came about through a drunken bet, Chris enjoyed the experience enough to keep coming back, with his times varying from four hours and 10 minutes to four hours and 35 minutes.

He starts training for the marathon at least two months before race day, building up his kilometres from around 10km per week initially to around 60km per week during peak training.

Marathon ManChris Mockford took part in his fifth City to Surf marathon last weekend, meaning he’s run (42km) in every one since the inaugural race five years ago!
