Proceeds are used to purchase special books and AV items not covered by the Library's budget. ~ The biggest job ofthe Book Sale is the set-up. LiBrary BOOK CroupScheduled MY ANTONIA by Willa Cather will be discussed in the Library's Book Group on Wednesday, February 25, at 1 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. Sessions are scheduled on the last Wednesday of the month, and are led by Library staff members. Reg- istration (at the Information Desk) is necessary, as group size is limited; co- pies of the book are also available there. Croup Arl Shol'l Brighlens Winler The Essex Water Color Club will hold its annual show here in February. An opening reception will be held for the artists on Sunday, February 8, from 2:15 to 4 p.m., sponsored by The Friends of The Library. This Club, founded in 1932, is the oldest existing watercolor club in New Jersey. There are about 200 members, many well-known in art circles. Membership is acquired by having one's work judged by a jury panel which meets once a year in November. Appreciation for watercolor, for both the artist and community, is the goal of this organization. Don't miss this exhibit of highly talented artists the day of the reception or on your next visit to the Library during regular hours. Pennies For PeElce in FebraElry The Library is participating in the New Jersey State Library's plan to honor the legacy of Abraham Lincoln this month with a "Lincoln Pennies for Peace Contest." Lincoln believed in education, oppor- tunity, equality, and peace. The original Pennies For Peace program was conceived in 1996 by students in a Wisconsin elementary school. Since then, more than 16 million pennies have been collect- ed by over 700 schools in all 50 states. To date, the Central Asia Institute has established 61 schools, educating over 25,000 students. All funds collected in this drive will also be given to the Central Asia Institute co-founded by Greg Mortenson author of the bestsell- ing biography, THREE CUPS OF TEA. The money will be used to build school libraries in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The penny container (please, no nickels, dimes or quarters) is located in the main lobby during February. Ja22 Movie ShownJoe Lang of the N. J. Jazz Society willshow the film, "Last of the BlueDevils" here on Wednesday, February25, at 7 p.m. It documents a 1974reunion of jazz musicians, includingCount Basie, Budd Johnson, Big JoeTurner, and Jay McShann, at theMusicians' Union in Kansas City, andincludes both performance footage andreminiscences about the time whenKansas City was a hotbed of jazzcreativity. Following the film will be adiscussion period; the public is wel-come and encouraged to attend thisfree film showing.

.Sidney Krueger, emeritus professor of Kean ColJege, will present

a film series of currently-revived Broadway musicals here onTuesdays at 1 p.m. in February. Fans of musical films will enjoythis free series.

The first is "Guys and Dolls," which will be shown on Tuesday,February 3. Originally released in 1955 (149 min.), it featuresMarlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine ina story about a gentleman gambler who falls in love with a mission-ary, and a crap game operator who avoids marrying his longtimefiancee.

The second film is "Gypsy," scheduled for Tuesday, February 10.It was originally released in 1962 (143 min.) and stars RosalindRussell, Natalie Wood, and Karl Malden. This is the life story ofburlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee, and her rise to stardom while deal-ing with her ambitious and volatile mother.

"South Pacific" (1958,150 min.) will be screened on Tuesday,February 17. Featuring Rossano Brazzi, Mitzi Gaynor, John Kerr,and Ray Walston, it is the tale of an American Navy nurse stationedon a South Pacific Island during World War II who falls in love witha French plantation owner. Trying to escape the battles around them,the pair find refuge with each other as their romance grows in thistropical paradise.

Last in the series is "West Side Story" set for Tuesday, February24. Originally released in 1961 (151 min.), this movie includesNatalie Wood, Richard Beymer Russ Tambl n Rita Moreno, andGeorge Chakiris. A modern version of Romeo and Juliet, it is setagainst the backdrop of two rival street gangs, the Sharks and theJets, in the 1950's of New York City. The sister of the Sharks'leader falls in love with the former head of the Jets, experiencingtragic consequences.
