    MONUMENTS OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE

    There are three monuments of national importance in Sikkim which are located in

    West District. These three monuments are under the direct administrative control of

    the Archaeological Survey of India, Kolkata ircle. These monuments are wellmaintained and protected under Ancient !onuments and Archaeological Sites and

    "emains #Amended and "evalidation$ Act %&'&. Three monuments are as follows(

    Coronation

    throne/Norbugang

    Yuksom, West Sikkim:-The

    'st King of the )amgyal

    Dynesty *huntsog )amgyal

    was consecrated here in '+'AD -y the three saints,

    hatsun henpo, )agadak

    Senpa henpo and Karthok

    "ig/ing henpo. 0uksom

    meaning the 'st place of

    meeting of these great lamas and -ecame the 1rst capital of Sikkim.

    There are remains of two monuments vi/( 3udang 6adi, entral *endam, 7ast

    Sikkim and 8ndichi *alace Tumlong, )orth Sikkim which are presently -eingrestored -y the ultural A9airs : ;eritage Department. The department has takenmeasures for their conservation with the help of Archaeological Survey of India andlocal conservation e.

    TRADITIONAL (OUSES OF SI##IM

    Traditional ;ouses found in Sikkim are part of vernacular architecture which were in

    practice in Sikkim. ?ernacular architecture is the popular architecture that is

    practice -y the people without the help of the architects it is evolved over

    generation -y the people and their artisans for their own use. It relies on materials

    and skills that are availa-le in the area.
