Light and shadows are the magic of Canyon Country. Since 1963 we have availed ourselves of this natural wonder and added sound,

the spoken word, and a riverboat to offer an evening program on the Colorado River often hailed as “the highlight of our vacation” by visitors. The backdrop for this popular show is a star-filled, Southern Utah sky and high red rock canyon walls. The hosts are knowledgeable, humorous guides who love sharing the wonders of their own backyard with others, along with Indian legends, geology and history as the rock walls come alive with powerful lights, adding color and beauty. This is a sound and light show beyond comparison. Begin the adventure with a Cowboy Style Dutch Oven Dinner served on the banks of the Colorado River and then complete the evening with the 2 hour sound and light show.

Note: There are no cameras or video equipment allowed on the tour for safety reasons. Children under 4 years of age are not permitted.

We herald this four-hour excursion as the best trip anywhere for a serious photographer. The newest, most modern and best-equipped boats are used

for this part of the Colorado River. Exploring the calm water sections down river from Moab, the trip reveals remote canyons of exquisite beauty. Special features include a petrified forest, fossilized sea beds, spectacular rock cliffs, Indian ruins, arches, petroglyphs, Thelma and Louise Point and Dead Horse Point. The motors are turned off for part of the trip for a quiet float interrupted only by the sounds of nature. Our customers are fortunate that we have our own private dock, which means they spend four full hours on the river instead of a bus ride. Just another way we’re a notch above the rest.

Horseback Riding

Rugged beauty

The Castle Creek adventure begins with a 30 minute orientations outlining horsemanship, ranching and history. After carefully

matching riders to horses and adjusting tack, guests are taught basic riding techniques. Beauty is unsurpassed as the trail winds up Castle Creek Canyon crossing the stream several times. Dramatic 2,000 foot cliffs tower above the trail and riders get a sense of natural power and beauty. The trail winds around huge boulders, up and down small canyons and along the cool water of Castle Creek. At the halfway mark, guests will ride out of a small canyon and stop for a breathtaking view of Castle Valley and the world famous Castle Rock. John Wayne rode through this area 30 years ago while making his western movies, so ample time for picture taking is provided.

Castle Creek Winery

In 2002 Castle Creek Winery was established with grapes coming from

a dozen local growers scattered around the area. These grapes have produced over 30 award–winning wines. The new winery building has a large production area with a tasting room and a gift shop. The winery is available for seminars, private tastings and parties.

Heritage Movie History Museum

“The people who run the horseback ride are fantastic! Beautiful, healthy animals, great trails and the staff teaches horsemanship in a particularly engaging manner. Best ride we’ve ever had!”

— The McDowells

In the late 1940s the legendary John Ford discovered the rugged beauty

of Moab’s Canyonlands and filmed the first of many movies here. The first major motion pictures filmed in the Moab area were set on the Red Cliff’s Ranch. The museum houses memorabilia from the early films to the present and is ever changing. Movie and western ranching themes are present throughout the resort. The museum is self–guided and open to the public daily at no charge.

“Better than California.”

Monument Valley, Utah

Located in the heart of Navajo Land, Monument Valley offers visitors an opportunity to experience the unique culture of the Navajo

People. It’s spectacular scenery is captivating year-round. The buttes, mesas, and freestanding formations revel their greatest beauty at sunrise or sunset, but are pleasant at all times of the day with their unique shapes sculpted into the landscape. You can easily view some of the monuments from Hwy 163, but there are few stopping places. Other scenic veiws can be seen from the seventeen mile dirt road in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Guided tours are available and recommended.

Monument Valley has been the location of sixteen major motion films and the heart of numerous commericals. Initial contact with Hollywood was made by Harry Goulding, whom operated a trading post in Monument Valley from 1928 to 1962. He opened the door for the film industry’s entry into the valley and helped to bring financial relief to the townspeople.

Today, the tradition of film-making continues. Monument Valley is still used as a location for movies, commericals, television shows, and magazine shoots.

Bryce Canyon National Park

At Bryce Canyon National Park, erosion has shaped colorful Claron limestones, sandstones, and mudstones into thousands of spires,

fins, pinnacles, and mazes. Collectively called “hoodoos,” these colorful and whimsical formations stand in horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters along the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in Southern Utah. Hoodoos formed over thousands of years by the same processes that form the features of surrounding parks. Water, ice (at varying intervals) and gravity are the forces that form Bryce Canyon.

Bryce Canyon National Park is named for pioneer Ebenezer Bryce who came to the Paria Valley with his family in 1875. He was sent by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because his skill as a carpenter would be useful in settling this area.

You don’t want to miss out on a trip to Red Canyon located along Scenic Byway

12, nine miles outside of Bryce. You’ll find the stunning hoodoo formations,

red cliffs, and pink soil amazing!

As southern Utah developed, Reuben and Minnie Syrett—who homesteaded just outside the present park boundaries—brought their friends to see the intricately eroded stone formations. By popular demand, they developed sleeping and eating facilities on the canyon rim. They called their establishment, “Tourist’s Rest.” When the area was set aside as a national monument in 1923, the Union Pacific Railroad bought out the Syrett’s interests and began to construct Bryce Canyon Lodge intending to make the Bryce Canyon area part of their new “Loop Tour” of the southwest. The Syrett’s then built “Ruby’s Inn” on their own land just north of the park.
