Review of Agenda: Agenda Approved – See attachment 1.

-Secretary’s Report-

1. Presented 21 July 2018 Board Meeting Minutes, 24 July membership for Nathan Johnson, 6

August membership for Charlie Watts, and 6 August membership for Greg Bielanski for

approval.

Motion: Approve Board and Membership Minutes.

Moved: Mike Luginbuhl

Second: Rich Strom

Vote: Approved. 13 votes aye, zero votes nay, and four voting member not present.

-Treasurer’s Report-

1. Jack Fry – We still have not received all money for the 4th of July parade. We currently have

approximately $56,000 in bank. We also have some outstanding grants to distribute. We are

wrapping up the fiscal year next month and working on next year’s budget. Get inputs into Jack

and Kathy early September. Joint board will approve next year’s budget at September

(combined) board meeting.

2. The bad news is we had seven members that did not make the 30 days for dues payment this

quarter. All but two have been tracked down for payment. The other two should have letters

sent by the Secretary. RF took action to try one more time to contact them and find out if they

really want to remain MHKC members. (footnote: One member paid and wants to remain, the

second resigned based on just too much going on in life currently).

-Old Business-

1. Marian Taylor – Recommending we discontinue dictionary distribution to D38 third graders.

See attachment 2.

Motion: Discontinue the MHKC program distributing dictionaries to D38 third graders.

Moved: Marian Taylor

Second: Max Williams

Discussion: Marian has talked at length with the principal at Kilmer Elementary, who has, in

turn, talked with other D38 elementary principals and they are all onboard with decision.

Dictionaries are not very much needed or used in the day of tablets, Alexa, etc.

Vote: Approved. 13 votes aye, zero votes nay, and four voting member not present.

2. Pete Peterson wrapped up 4th of July parade. Another very successful parade in the books.

-New Business-

1. Russ Broshous announced the Foundation Granting Committee scheduled to brief D38 school

board Monday, 20 August at 5:30 PM. Anyone interested/available is welcome to attend.

2. Larry Young - Key Leader working group brief from the RMD conference in Greeley. See

attachment 3. Several MHKC members attended, but no commitment at this time from MHKC.

Preliminary decision from the working group is to plan to reinstate Key Leader in 2019. First

district planning meeting scheduled for 28 August in Castle Rock. Castle Rock Impact Club

accepted responsibility for overall preliminary planning.

Motion: Authorize MHKC president to appoint members to participate in planning, as necessary.

3. RF meets regularly with the Mayor of Monument, Don Wilson and believes he (position) is a

good candidate for Honorary Membership in MHKC.

Motion: Approve Mayor of Monument (Don Wilson) for Honorary Membership while he is

Mayor of Monument.

Moved: RF Smith

Second: Barb Broshous

Discussion: What does the mayor actually do for the Club? Benefit is we have an authority in

Monument that we have an established relationship with and we can continue to meet with to

better understand community. Why can’t he become a regular member? It would probably be

unrealistic and set a precedent for him to join all other service organizations in the area. Benny

suggested we look into making Dusty Severn (Empty bowls, Clay and Color) an Honorary

Member. Barb Broshous took action to ask Dave Wittman for an input.

Vote: Approved. 12 votes aye, one vote nay, and four voting member not present.

4. Barb Broshous – I would like to recommend we explore decreasing the size of the MHKC

board down to 12 or 13 members. We could still quite easily meet KI requirements and we

should be able to do it without changing Bylaws. More to follow.

-Programs-

Benny – Programs are full through November. We have a good, strong committee.

-Fundraising Report-

Joe Foreman not in attendance.

-Service Leadership Report-

1. Max Williams – D38 begins the new school year this Monday. SLP has supported us with

134.5 hours of community service this summer, including support for Soap Box Derby, 4th of

July parade, and the LPMS Transitions program.

2. We need an advisor for Bear Creek Elementary School. Tom VanWormer needs to step

down. They are expecting 100 students in the club this year.

-Membership Report-

We have a new member application for Robert Knoth.

Motion: Approve Robert Knoth application for Membership.

-Public Relations-

Ofie Lopez – Nothing to Report.

-Bingo & Raffles-

1. Mark Zeiger – All new members have signed up to support Bingo.

2. I sent out a questionnaire for peaches and received over 200 responses. We may want to have

all project managers think about doing the same.

-Special Needs-

Rich Strom – Nothing to Report.

-Member Recognition-

Ron Mangiarelli – Nothing to Report.

-Interclub & Social Activities-

Mark Silvanic not in attendance.

-Planning, Analysis, and Resources-
