(Figure 1) (Figure 2) (Figure 3) (Figure 4) MonuGrid Installation Guide Step 1: Sub-Base Preparation Remove the headstone carefully. Excavate and level existing ground to a minimum depth of 6” inches* (154mm). Ensure that the area covered by MonuGrid exceeds the size of the headstone base being levelled. Determine the number of MonuGrid pieces required. (i.e. 12” x 24” requires 2 pieces, 24” x 24” required 4 pieces) *NOTE: Examine sub-grade conditions. If you encounter unstable soils such as; clay, sand and/or water (see figure1), follow instructions under “Layered Eect” (see reverse side). Step 2: Bedding Preparation Remove large stones and/or old foundation pieces Level the sub-grade with 4” inches (101 mm) of free draining ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) clear crush stone. Step 3: Laying MonuGrid Install MonuGrid with the holes up so that the flat side with the X pattern is laying on the prepared sub-base clear crush stone. Start in the corner of the levelled sub-base (see figure 2). The lugs on the edge of the grid must face the direction of the installation. Install the next grid in the same orientation so that the slots slide on top of the lugs of the previous grid (see figure 3). Continue attaching the MonuGrid pieces in the desired direction. Step 4: Filling MonuGrid Once the MonuGrid pieces have been placed, check the level again. Fill the grid with more free draining ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) clear crushed stone. Compact the clear crush stone within the grid manually with a hand tamper or a piece of 2” x 4” . If required, add more crush stone where voids have been created due to settling—repeat until settling stops and the clear crush stone is level to the top of the grid (see figure 4). www.iowatgroupinc.com/monugrid Tel: 613.822.3223

MonuGrid Installation Guide

Step 1: Sub-Base Preparation • Remove the headstone carefully. Excavate and level existing ground to a minimum depth of 6”

inches* (154mm). Ensure that the area covered by MonuGrid exceeds the size of the headstone base being levelled. Determine the number of MonuGrid pieces required.(i.e. 12” x 24” requires 2 pieces, 24” x 24” required 4 pieces)

• *NOTE: Examine sub-grade conditions. If you encounter unstable soils such as; clay, sand and/or water (see figure1), follow instructions under “Layered Effect” (see reverse side).

Step 2: Bedding Preparation

• Remove large stones and/or old foundation pieces • Level the sub-grade with 4” inches (101 mm) of free draining ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) clear crush

stone.

Step 3: Laying MonuGrid

• Install MonuGrid with the holes up so that the flat side with the X pattern is laying on the prepared sub-base clear crush stone.

Step 4: Filling MonuGrid

• Once the MonuGrid pieces have been placed, check the level again. • Fill the grid with more free draining ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) clear crushed stone.• Compact the clear crush stone within the grid manually with a hand tamper or a piece of 2” x 4” . • If required, add more crush stone where voids have been created due to settling—repeat until

settling stops and the clear crush stone is level to the top of the grid (see figure 4).

“Layered Effect” “The layered effect” is when your clear crush stone foundation is essentially sandwiched between two sections of MonuGrid. We recommend layering when unstable soils such as clay, sand and/or water is found at the bottom of the trench. (see fig 5 )

Step 1: Sub-Base Layered Grid Preparation

• Excavate to a minimum depth of 10” inches* (25mm). Ensure that the area covered by MonuGrid exceeds the size of the headstone base being levelled. Determine the number of MonuGrid pieces required. In this case 12” x 24” requires 4 pieces or 24” x 24” requires 8 pieces, same amount of pieces for the top and bottom layers.

• Level the sub-grade the best you can.• Add a non-woven geo-textile membrane directly on top of the sub-grade to prevent the

sub-base from migrating into the soil• Install the first layer of MonuGrid directly on top of the geo-textile / sub-grade starting

in the corner (see fig 2) to dramatically increase bearing capacity and prevent the impact of frost.

Step 2: Layered Bedding Preparation

• Fill the first layer of MonuGrid with 6" (inches) of ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) clear crush stone.• Level the top

Step 3: MonuGrid Top Layer

• Install the MonuGrid pieces on the levelled sub-base. The lugs on the edge of the grid must face the direction of the installation. Install the next grid in the same orientation so that the slots slide on top of the lugs of the previous grid (see fig 3). Continue attaching the MonuGrid pieces in the desired direction.

Step 4: Filling MonuGrid

• Once the MonuGrid pieces have been placed, check the level again. • Fill the grid with clear crush stone ¼” - ½” (10 - 14mm) in size.• Compact the stone within the grid manually with a hand tamper or a piece of 2” x 4”. • If required, add more clear crush stone where voids have been created due to settling

—repeat until settling stops and the clear crush stone is level to the top of the grid (see figure 4).
