Paolo Fresu og Jan Lundgren er blandt Europas største stjerner. Deres seneste CD er således solgt i mere end 50.000 eksemplarer. Begge er de kendt for deres smukke og melodiøse spil, og sammen med to mangeårige musi-kalske venner giver de os her et uimodståeligt bud på jaz-zens kendte melodier, som vi kender dem fra Miles Davis, Chet Baker og alle de store amerikanske mestre.

Paolo Fresu and Jesper Lundgren are some of Europe’s biggest names in jazz and their latest album has sold more than 50,000 copies. Both are known for their beautiful, melodic playing and together with two musical friends they share their interpretation of famous jazz tunes known from Miles Davis, Chet Baker and all the great American masters.

Under overskriften ”Her hvor vi bor” har en af de store danskere i nyere jazz samlet en helt ny gruppe. Temaet er København og Danmark, som altid har været beriget af, at musikere fra andre dele af verden har slået sig ned her. Bo Stief har en udsædvanlig evne til at iscenesætte sine projekter med både interessante og spilleglade musikere, hvilket altid resulterer i et både medri-vende og originalt output.

One of modern jazz’ Great Danes has put together a new group. The project is entitled ”This is where we live” and the main themes are Copenhagen, Denmark and the enrich-ment brought here by immigrating musicians from other parts of the world. Bo Stief has a special gift for developing his projects with both interesting and cheerful musicians, and the always original outcome is sure to carry away the audience.

Philip Catherine er en af Europas væsentligste jazzmusikere. I Danmark ken-der vi ham blandt andet for hans tætte samarbejde med NHØP. Nu spiller han for første gang sammen med Carsten Dahl, som anses for at være Dan-marks nye internationale stjerne. Duo med klaver og guitar høres sjældent men kan være en fantastisk oplevelse, når stjerner møder hinanden. Tænk blot på det berømte samarbejde mellem Bill Evans og Jim Hall.

Philip Catherine is one of the most remarkable jazz musicians in Europe; in Denmark he is particularly known for working closely with NHØP. This is the first time for him to play with Carsten Dahl who is considered Denmark’s new international star. A duo of piano and guitar is rare but is potentially an amazing experience when two stars meet. Keep in mind the famous teamwork between Bill Evans and Jim Hall.

Sammen med Kenny Barron er Mulgrew Miller den største nulevende pianist i den klassiske amerikanske jazzpiano-tradition. Han spiller melodisk, swin-gende og har et nærvær, som favner et stort publikum over hele verden. Kun få andre i Europa ud over Jesper Lundgaard og Alex Riel formår at være med på dette niveau. De to har tilsammen spillet med flere amerikanske ’Jazz Greats’ end nogen andre i verden. En stor aften er i vente.

Together with Kenny Barron, Mulgrew Miller is the greatest living pianist in the classic American jazz piano tradition. His melody, swing and presence embrace his audience wherever he goes. In Europe, Jesper Lundgaard and Alex Riel are among the very few musicians that are able to keep up with him. In total, these two have played with more jazz giants than anyone else in the world. A big night is ahead of us.

Mulgrew Miller er en af jazzens giganter. Hans ligefremme, originale og stærkt swingende spil er en fryd for enhver, som oplever ham live. I Danmark kender vi ham fra hans fænomenale duospil med NHØP. Det er derfor en ære at kunne præsentere Mulgrew Miller sammen med Jesper Lundgaard, der sammen med en håndfuld andre danske bassister viderefører den for-nemme bastradition, som NHØP skabte.

Mulgrew Miller is a jazz giant whose sincere, original and swingin’ style is always a pleasure for those who experience him live. In Denmark he is particularly known for his phenomenal duo playing with NHØP. At Montmartre, we are therefore proud to present Mulgrew Miller together with Jesper Lundgaard, who alongside a few other Danish bass-ists continue the beautiful bass tradition created by NHØP.

John Taylor er formentlig den største pianist i europæisk jazz og kan uden videre sidestilles med Keith Jarrett og Herbie Hancock som de største pia-nister i moderne jazz. Også som komponist er John Taylor toneangivende i Europa. Montmartre er beæret over, at den stærkt efterspurgte pianist igen lægger vejen forbi København. Sammen med to af sine yndlingsmusikere og musikalske venner giver han denne aften sit bud på, hvordan moderne triojazz lyder, når det spilles af tre store personligheder.

John Taylor is very likely the greatest pianist in European jazz and comparable to Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock in modern jazz. In Europe, John Taylor is remarkable as a composer as well. Montmartre is proud to have the popular and very busy pianist back on our stage where he will present his version of modern trio jazz together with two of his favourite musicians and friends.

Montmartre har en stor tradition for at bringe danske og udenlandske musikere sammen. I årevis var klubben hjemsted for Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon og mange andre musikere, som slog sig ned i København. Blandt de sidst tilkomne er engelske Gerard Presencer, der anses for en af de største trompetister, Europa har fostret. Han kan det hele. Denne aften er finalen på Mulgrew Millers tre dages besøg i Montmartre, og der er derfor lagt op til en aften med klassisk jazz, som går lige i hjertet på publikum.

Montmartre traditionally brings together Danish and international musicians, and for years the venue was home to Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon and many other musicians. Most recently, Gerard Presencer, who is considered one of Europe’s greatest trumpeters, has settled down in Copenhagen. This evening is the last night of Mulgrew Miller’s three day visit to Montmartre and the scene is set for classic jazz that will find its way to the heart of any listener.

John Taylor er en af jazzens store personligheder og har i hele sin karriere arbejdet tæt sammen med vokalister. Senest italienske Diana Torto, der lige nu er en de mest interessante yngre sangerinder overhovedet. Sammen dyrker de duoformen, hvor John Taylors smukke spil og Tortos suveræne be-herskelse af stemmen går op i en højere enhed. Det gælder både deres egne kompositioner, og når de spiller standards og kendte italienske melodier. Det er en oplevelse, man ikke bør gå glip af.

John Taylor is a great jazz personlity who has played with vocalists throughout his career – most recently, Italian Diana Torto who is one of today’s most interesting female singers of her generation. When they perform in a duo, Taylor’s beautiful playing and Torto’s phenomenal control of her voice melt together – both when playing their own composi-tions and when interpreting standards and well-known Italian melodies. You should not miss this experience.

Diana Torto er en af Europas nye store sangerinder, og i marts tog hun såle-des Montmartres publikum med storm. Hendes stemme har et usædvanligt stort register, og hun har med sin klassiske baggrund et sjældent set teknisk overskud, både når hun synger egne numre og standards. Denne aften bakkes hun op af tre af europæisk jazz’ store musikere, som har spillet med store sangerinder lige fra Norma Winstone og Radka Toneff til Dee Dee Brigdewater og Nancy Wilson.

Diana Torto is one of Europe’s new great female singers, and in March she took the Montmartre audience by storm. Her voice covers an exceptional span and her classic background allows for highly unusual technicalities both when performing her own songs and standards. On stage with her this evening are three of the greatest European jazz names who have previously played with female singers from Norma Winstone and Radka Toneff to Dee Dee Bridgewater and Nancy Wilson.

Brasilien bliver ved med at skabe nye stjerner, som begej-strer og betager publikum med deres smittende glæde og suveræne teknik. Diego Figueiredo skaber nye fans hver eneste gang, han går på scenen. Få andre I verden spiller så medrivende og udadvendt guitar. Som noget helt unikt inviterer han nogle af sine musikalske venner på scenen til en aften, hvor alt kan ske.

Brazil continuously fosters new stars that impress and amaze their audiences with their joy and exceptional technique. Diego Figueiredo makes new fans everytime he enters the stage, and very few others play the guitar as expressively as he does. For this particular occasion, he invites some of his musical friends to join him on stage for a night of endless possibilities.

Montmartre har en meget fornem tradition for jam sessions. I 50’erne og 60’erne var det stjerner som Dizzy Gillespie, Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin mv., som sent på aftenen indtog Montmartres scene og fortsatte festen efter at have spillet koncert i København. Under festivalen er der tradition for, at stjernerne lægger vejen forbi og skaber enestående øjeblikke for dem, som er heldige at være til stede. I år ledes jam-trioen af det unge amerikanske stjernefrø David Bryant, som sammen med to af vores egne talenter sørger for ægte Montmartrestemning.

Montmartre has a proud tradition of jam sessions. In the 50s and 60s, stars such as Dizzy Gillespie, Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin and many others stopped by after their gigs in Co-penhagen to continue the party. Traditionally, during the jazz festival, several big names drop in and create unique moments for those lucky enough to catch them. This year, we present the young American rising star, David Bryant, as the front figure of our jam trio. Together with two of our own talents, he will guarantee that certain Montmartre feel.
