Forkan Uddin FCA, Member Council-ICAB took part in the meeting of Task Force to implement UDIN in SAFA Member Bodies, Dr. Md. Abu Sayed Khan FCA, Member Council-ICAB in the meeting of Committee on Governmental and Public Sector Enterprises Accounting, Sabbir Ahmed FCA, Member Council-ICAB, participated in the meeting of Committee on Auditing Standards and Quality Control.

A F Nesaruddin FCA, President and Md. Humayun Kabir FCA, Member Council & Past President-ICAB participated in 59th SAFA Board meeting on 30 July 2019. SAFA Board and all the committee meetings were held in ICASL premises.

ICAB President AF Nesaruddin had the opportunity to put fire at the lantern at the inaugural session of the SAFA

(South Asian Federation of Accountants) Forum on “ The Role of Finance Professional in Combatting Corruption: South Asian Perspectives” held at Balmoral Ballroom, Hotel Kingsbury in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 30 July 2019. As panel speaker Prof. Dr. Md. Salim Uddin FCA presented a paper titled “Combating Corruption in Bangladesh” in the program. The increasingly important role of professional accountants including Chartered Accountants can play in eradicating corruption and the culture of impunity was the key point of the discussion jointly organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).

Besides Dr. Md Salim Uddin of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, Atul Gupta of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Krishna Prasad Acharya of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal, Ashfaq Tola of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and Ather Saleem of CMA – Pakistan delivered their presentations to enlighten the audience.

Sri Lankan State Minister for Finance Eran Wickramaratne, SAFA President Dr. P.V.S. Jagan Mohan Rao, Manoj Fadnis, President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and CA Sri Lanka President Jagath Perera,among others were present in the inaugural session. A good number of SAFA Delegates, and guests from south Asian countries participated in the program.

Dear Fellow Members,Assalamu alaikum and greetings to you all.Since its inception, ICAB is working on creating expertise in accountancy profession who are not merely the accountants rather the business leaders and advisors in nation building. We believe that we can establish the transparency and accountability in every respect of our society through maintaining the highest level of professionalism. We are entrusted ourselves for building business confidence in Bangladesh. As a professional accounting body, it has made tremendous advancement on various facets and overall image building of the profession and the nation. ICAB is always in favor of any rational positive changes for the greater benefit of the nation and the profession, and it would continue to do so always.In July ICAB has arranged a couple of workshops and seminars. ICAB organized two workshops on ‘VAT & SD Act, 2012–Highlights and Challenges and a workshop on ‘ICAEW Pathway Membership for the Members of ICAB’. A day long workshop on ‘Top Level Leadership and Management Skills Development for Career Success’ was also organised at the ICAB Training Room on 12 July 2019. This program was an interactive grooming up session that was jointly organized by ICAB and WSDA, New Zealand. The objective of the workshop was to enhance emotional intelligence, personal leadership, body language, corporate etiquette, stress management and effective negotiation. These types of trainings will definitely improve the efficiency of our members working in different sectors. ICAB has achieved significant successes in many areas, and I hope certainly it is on the route to achieve excellence. It has made eventful progress in education, training, setting standards, quality assurance, IT, infrastructure, management, professional conduct and in other relevant areas. As a monthly news bulletin ‘ICAB News Bulletin’ has also earned lot of reputation at home and abroad over the years. But there is always a room for betterment. We solicit your suggestions for the betterment of ‘ICAB News Bulletin’.

Workshop on ‘Top Level Leadership and Management

Skills Development for Career Success’

day long workshop on 'Top Level Leadership and Management Skills Development for Career Success' was

held at the ICAB Training Room on 12 July 2019. A total number of 35 participants took part in the program.

This program was an interactive grooming up session jointly organized by ICAB and WSDA New Zealand.

The objectives of the workshop were enhancing emotional intelligence, personal leadership, body language, corporate etiquette, stress management and effective negotiation.

N K A Mobin FCA, Vice President-ICAB, Gopal Chandra Ghosh FCA, Council Member - ICAB, Major General Muhammad Imrul Quayes ndc, psc (Retd), Secretary-ICAB and resource persons were present in the closing ceremony of the program.

Resource persons of the program course were Neaz Ahmed, Senior Faculty Member & Dean of 'Future CEO program', Ahmed Bari, Life Coach and Vice President and Ms. Madeleine Taylor, Business Coach & Trainer, WSDA New Zealand.

CAB organized two workshops on ‘VAT & Supplementary Duty (SD) Act, 2012– Highlights and Challenges’ at ICAB

Auditorium on 24 July and 30 July 2019.

As resource persons Snehasish Barua FCA, Partner, Snehasish Mahmud & Co., Chartered Accountants, Rakesh Saha FCA, Partner, Ahmed Mashuque & Co., Chartered Accountants and Dr. Abdul Mannan Shikder, Member (VAT Policy), Customs, Excise & VAT, NBR. conducted the sessions.

Maj Gen Muhammad Imrul Quayes, ndc, psc (retd), Secretary-ICAB inaugurated the workshop and ICAB President AF Nesaruddin FCA awarded the certificates to the participants.

CAB Centre for Professional Excellence (ICPE) organized a workshop on “ICAEW Pathway Membership for the Members of ICAB” on 1 July 2019 at ICPE training room. A total number of 60 participants took

part in the program. ICAB President A F Nesaruddin FCA inaugurated the session. Resource Person of the workshop was Justin West, Consultant, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).

The new financial year has started with the hope and aspiration to make further advancement of economy of the country. In this journey ICAB Members are very instrumental and have role in ensuring stable financial system and stronger economy. Thereby I must say, they have so far played an active role in the rise of our economy wherever they are involved. With high degree of integrity and professional values, they are working towards achieving SDGs. Understanding the criticality of their functions, ICAB recurrently organizes trainings and workshops pertaining concurrent professional issues to its members and inspires them towards professional excellence. Besides, considering the global business scenario and the changes of commercial operations, during my tenure ICAB has undertaken many reform initiatives to make the Institute more vibrant. Our education system is the epitome of world class standard as ICAB has fully adopted the academic syllabus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), UK.

Dear members, let me update you about major activities of the Institute during the month of July 2019.

SAFA Conference and board meeting in Colombo: An expert team of ICAB participated in SAFA Board Meeting, different committee meetings and SAFA (Forum) Conference on 29 and 30 July 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Abu Sayed Khan FCA, Mr. Muhammad Farooq FCA, Mr. Gopal Chandra Ghosh FCA, Mr. Sabbir Ahmed FCA, Mr. Mahmudul Hasan Khusru FCA, Mr. Mohammed Forkan Uddin FCA, Ms. Maria Howlader FCA and Past Presidents Mr. Muhammed Farhad Hussain FCA and Ms. Parveen Mahmud FCA. They participated in their respective committee meetings on 29 July and I, myself along with Mr. Md Humayun Kabir FCA participated in the SAFA Board meeting on 30 July 2019.

At the inaugural session of the SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants) Conference, I had the

opportunity to lit the fire at the lantern, a ritual of beginning of a gala program. The conference titled “The Role of Finance Professional in Combatting Corruption: South Asian Perspectives” was held at Balmoral Ballroom, Hotel Kingsbury in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 30 July, 2019. As panel speaker ICAB Vice President Prof. Dr. Md. Salim Uddin FCA presented a paper on “Combating Corruption in Bangladesh”. His deliberation was excellent and mesmerized the audiences. A good number of SAFA Delegates and guests from south Asian countries and the representatives of Sri Lankan Government including Finance Minister were present in the conference.

The Jury Board meeting of the Review Committee for Published Accounts and Reports (RCPAR) of the Council-ICAB was held on 17 July 2019 at ICAB Council Hall. Country’s prominent personalities including bankers, bureaucrats, journalist were present in the meeting as Members of the Jury Board headed by the Chairman of the Board Mr. Md Matiul Islam FCA, Chairman, IIDFC and Former Finance Secretary, Govt. of Bangladesh.

ICAB organized two workshops on ‘VAT & Supplementary Duty (SD) Act, 2012–Highlights and Challenges’ at ICAB Auditorium on 24 July and 30 July 2019. As ICAB Representative Mr. Mahbub Ahmed Siddique FCA, Director (Technical) and Mr. Md. Afsar Uddin FCA, Deputy Director (QAD) of ICAB participated in a discussion meeting regarding prevention of money laundering and terror financing at Bangladesh Bank premises on 8 July 2019. They discussed about Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) of the said issue with APG team of the central bank. As part of our commitment to combat money laundering, they took part in the discussion.

Announcement(Classes of Next Session)

The New Session of Day Time Classes for Certificate Level (3rd Batch) will start from Sunday, 8 September 2019 at ICAB- Academic Campus, 51-53, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Kawran Bazar Commercial Area, Dhaka-1215. By issuing a special notice, all practicing members of the Institute entitled to train articled students have been requested to kindly notify their students to register for the classes by 5 September 2019, and allow them to join the day shift classes as per schedule.On the other hand, the regular Pre-examination Classes (Session: Sept-Nov-19) for the students of Professional Level (3rd Batch) and Advanced Level (3rd Batch) are going to commence on 1 September 2019 at ICAB- Academic Campus, 51-53, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Kawran Bazar Commercial Area, Dhaka-1215. A Notice has been issued in this regard and all concerned students are advised to enroll for the classes by 29 August 2019 and attend to the session accordingly.

ICAB Academic Campus NewsThe regular session for the students of Certificate Level (Evening Shift- 3rd Batch, Sections: A-F) commenced from 13 June 2019 at ICAB- Academic Campus, will be closed on 7 September 2019. There are 323 students joining, with 57 teachers in this session. All the students are fresh candidates for Examination Session: November- December 2019.

As a result, the cumulative number of participating students in the classes under new curriculum has come to 16370, till July 31, 2019.

On the other hand, the new session of Day Time- Certificate Level (2nd Batch) will commence from Sunday, 8 September 2019. The last date of enrolment for the session is Thursday, 5 September. By issuing a special notice, all practicing members of the Institute entitled to train articled students have been requested to kindly notify their students and facilitate them to attend the day shift classes as per schedule.

Another regular session for the students of Professional Level (3rd Batch) and Advanced Level (3nd Batch) are going to begin from Sunday, 01 September 2019 at ICAB-Academic Campus, 51-53, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Kawran Bazar Commercial Area, Dhaka-1215. A Notice has already been issued in this regard and all concerned students are advised to enroll for the classes by 29 August 2019, and join the session accordingly.

Furthermore, 8- Fridays' short course on English Language to enhance the skills & capacities of CA students on English Language started from 24 May 2019 at ICAB-Academic Campus was ended on 19 July 2019. The program was running under the guidance of Bangladesh Chartered Accountancy Chatra Parishad (BCACP) & financed by the Dhaka Regional Committee (DRC)-ICAB. The next course schedule will be announced soon.

An-"Orientation Program" for the new students of Day Time Certificate Level is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 7 September 2019 at 4:00pm in ICAB-Academic Campus Conference Room. The ICAB office bearers, members- council, DRC members and teachers will be invited to make the program a success.

The refurbishments of ICAB-Academic Campus at 51-53, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Kawran Bazar Commercial Area, Dhaka-1215, have mostly done and the rest of works would be completed by August 2019.
