RITE OF ACCEPTANCE This Sunday we celebrate the Rite of Acceptance for Mark Combs and Shaun Garrett. They publicly express and the church accepts their intention to respond to God’s call to follow the way of Christ. The Catechumenate period now begins. The prerequisites for making this first step are the beginnings of the spiritual life and the fundamen-tals of Christian teaching taken root. There is evidence of their first faith, an initial conversion, an in-tention to change their lives and to enter into a relationship with God in Christ. This includes the stir-rings of repentance, and calling upon God in prayer. This next period of the catechumenate begins a time of teaching and nurturing of the catechumens’ faith and conversion to God. You will now notice that they will be “dismissed” following the homily where they will “open the word” and discuss what it means in their lives. We, as members of the parish, play a vital part in their process through our association with them and our prayers as they continue on their path to the sacraments at the Easter vigil 2014. Blessings,

Donna Beam, RCIA Director
