Mensaje de la Dirección
Estimados padres y tutores,
re State Standards o CCSS) en grados K-6to .
Atentamente,
Mónica Ruiz

Administrators’ Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 school year! This handbook
will provide you with general information about our school.
Please keep it handy as you may need to refer to it during the
year.
Throughout the year we will continue to focus on the ac-
ademic achievement of all students. Our success is directly tied
to the commitment and high expectations from all teachers, staff,
students, parents, and community members. Therefore, it is vital
that the cooperation and communication between parents and
school continues if we are to provide a quality education for all
Montgomery students.
We need ALL parents and guardians to support learning
by keeping the lines of communication open with the teacher and
school. It is essential to read and review flyers and special bulle-
tins sent home, as well as continuously monitor homework as-
signments.
This year we will also be implementing the new Com-
mon Core State Standards in grades K-6. The standards are
designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflect-
ing the knowledge and skills that our young people need for
success in college and careers. With students fully prepared
for the future, our communities will be best positioned to
compete successfully in the global economy. I can’t stress
how important parent support of our efforts is crucial to the
success of Montgomery students.
For answers to questions, contact us at 619-422-6131.
Sincerely,
Mónica Ruiz

Residency
The Chula Vista Elementary School District has established a poli-
cy for residency verification for all students attending any school
within the district as per California state law. If it is established
that you do not reside within school or district boundaries, or do not
have a current approved zone transfer, your child will be returned to
his or her designated home school. Classroom assignments are also
withheld until residency is verified. It is vital that all the necessary
documents be turned in to the school office. If you have any ques-
tions regarding residency verification, please drop in or contact the
office at 422-6131.
Other Important Information

check out books until the over due books are returned. If students
lose or damage books, they must be paid for according to the Ed-
ucation Code of the State of California (the average cost of a library
book is approximately $17.00).

California State law, Education Code 48200, requires compulso-
ry full-time attendance for children from ages 6 to 18. As the par-
ent of your child, you are obligated to compel your child’s attend-
ance at school, every day and on time for the full day.
Class begins at 7:45 a.m. (4-6) and 8:00 a.m. (K-3). If your
child enters the classroom any time after 7:49 a.m. or 8:00 a.m.,
they are considered TARDY. The amount of time students
attend class correlates highly with how much they are able
to learn.
Absence Procedures Late arrivals (30 min.), early dismissals (30 min.) (without a
doctor’s note), and unexcused absences are considered
truancies.
After three (3) truancies, parents will receive a
“NOTICE OF TRUANCY.”
After five (5) truancies, parents are required to attend a
“Student Attendance Review Team” (SART) meeting.
All student attendance contract violations are forwarded
to the “Student Attendance Review Board” (SARB) at
the district office.
Please make every attempt to schedule dental/medical appoint-
ments after school hours, or on school vacation days, to avoid
any attendance problems.
We urge parents to contact the office on the day of the child’s
absence at:
422-6131 ext. 3997, 24 hours a day.
Upon returning to school following an absence, children must
check in at the Attendance/Health Office (unless the parent has
verified the absence by phone or email) with a note from home
giving the date and reason for the absence (3 days or more ab-
sent requires a doctor’s note). If a note or phone call is not
received within 3 days, the absence will be considered a
TRUANCY .
