Dear ASIPI members, colleagues, guests and friends:

Welcome to ASIPI Montevideo!

March 8 to 10

ASIPI SEMINARDIGITAL BUSINESS, THE NEW FRONTIER

MONTEVIDEO2020

The year 2020 takes us to the beginning of a new decade and with it, the expectations of knowing what this new cycle has in store for us. The evolution of technology makes us transform the way we work and live. Companies, aware of this situation, are expanding their frontiers to make way for digital business, which will bring about a great transformation that will open up a range of possibilities, challenges and rewards for those who know how to take advantage of the digital potential to the fullest.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of ASIPI we welcome you to Montevideo.

This first meeting of the year brings us together in the Uruguayan capital, a city that harmoniously combines modernity and tradition, providing it with a unique identity. The Hyatt Centric Montevideo, located in an enviable spot of the city, is waiting for you to enjoy its incredible views of the Rio de la Plata and the famous Rambla Montevideana, the access balcony to more than 30 kilometers of coast where its inhabitants usually go to drink mate and go for long walks.

"Digital Business, the New Frontier" is the title of this Seminar in which we will be fortunate to have, on Tuesday morning, Dr. Manuel Desantes, Professor of Private International Law, as Key note speaker with "The lawyer of the future, how to reinvent in the digital age" who will talk about the importance of the lawyer nowadays and the profession in general adjusting to technological realities so as not to be left behind.

We will also have the participation of national and foreign guests of first level who will give us excellent presentations on topics that will help us to ensure great results in our professional life.

We will have topics such as the impact of AI on traditional industries, the use of AI, fashion law and e-integration, the use of technology in the Olympic Games, Fintech, how to reinvent yourself in the digital age, use and management of IP rights in over-the-top (OTT) media services, technology as a tool for defending IP rights, use of Big Data and celebrities and the protection of their digital rights. We hope to exceed your expectations on these current issues, showing not only the technical side of intellectual property, but also providing a business view.

We also have contemplated the aspect of human relations in order to get the best out of networking; we have planned meetings where, through recreation and fun, relating with others will be a perfect opportunity to establish and strengthen fraternal ties. On Saturday we will enjoy the sunset cocktail to welcome everyone; on Sunday, the opening cocktail; on Monday, the cocktail offered with much affection by the Uruguayan firms at Viña Varela Zarranz; and on Tuesday we will close the event with "chivitos y pizzas" at Hacienda Williman.

In addition, prior to the start of our Seminar we will have the opportunity to attend an activity on the legal protection of video games which we have organized with the Center for the Study of Intellectual Property of the University of the Republic of Montevideo.

And once the event ends, from March 11 to 13, ASIPI together with WIPO organized a workshop on the Drafting of Patent Applications with the objective of training trainers who can then carry out trainings at a national level for practitioners of the profession.

It is our desire that, from this new meeting, we all obtain new knowledges that will help us to continue achieving great results in our professional and social life.

Welcome to Uruguay

We are a small country of America, that’s for sure, YES we are!! We are small in surface and small in number of inhabitants, so you might wonder why come to Uruguay?

ASIPI is the answer, an association very linked to Uruguay and to the professionals of intellectual property. ASIPI chose Montevideo to celebrate this seminar and we are proud to offer you not only an interesting academic program, but also the possibility of getting to know Uruguay.

“A happy little country ..." said Einstein when he visited us in 1925, and that is what we are, surrounded by two powers we got stronger and created our own identity, we are URUGUAYANS and we are waiting for you to share our food, landscapes, traditions and our special way of friendship and brotherhood.

Alexis Viera was born on October 18, 1978, debuted as a professional at age 16 at Racing Club of Montevideo (1995). Gregorio Pérez, at that time coach for Peñarol, adds him to the main team where he acquired experience along with a large group of professionals, becoming a Uruguayan champion.

In 1998, the club that saw him grow, took him again and after a 4-year campaign in which he stood out and was a figure, he went on to defend the colors of Uruguay’s River Plate where coach Martín Lasarte gave him confidence and became a team figure. This campaign earned him that in 2006, National hired him where he is remembered for having saved two penalties against Boca in Argentina and eliminating them from the South American Cup. His brilliant performance made him an unforgettable idol for the powerful América de Cali, where he won over his fans and team captain.

In 2010 the Ñublense de Chile team hired him to reach the division of privilege and after a historic campaign they achieved promotion, but his big and noble heart took him back to Cali to help his former team reverse a difficult sporting moment and although leaving everything they did not achieve the objectives, he leaves the club to continue in Deportivo Cali until 2015 where his life took unexpected changes.

The Uruguayan capital harmonically combines modernity and tradition. Ancient architectural treasures such as the Cabildo, the Main Church and the Citadel Gate, styles such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco and modern avant-garde constructions such as the Communications Tower, give the city a unique identity.

The capital Rambla, the access balcony to over 30 kilometers of coastline, is one of the main attributes of Montevideo and an unmissable promenade for its inhabitants who usually resort to it to take mate and take long walks. So are the amount of green spaces, parks and gardens that allow multiple outdoor options.

Montevideo also has a wide cultural movement. For instance, its theater billboard is strikingly extensive and varied, and encompasses both classic, modern and alternative shows. In its museums, cultural centers, cultural house and exhibition halls it is possible to appreciate the art of a wide range of artists of international scope such as Juan Manuel Blanes, Rafael Barradas, Pedro Figari, Joaquín Torres García, José Cúneo and Ignacio Iturria, among others.
