Mr. Vine was one of the pioneers of aviation in Montana, learning to fly in 1928 at Wolf Point, Montana taking instruction in a Travel Air Biplane powered by a World War I surplus Curtiss OX-5 V-8 engine. Vern soloed on October 7, 1928 after 16 hours of dual instruction from James Cook. He was an active pilot and aviation enthusiast until his death in 1992.

Mr. Vine was one of the pioneers of aviation in Montana, learning to fly in 1928 at

Wolf Point, Montana taking instruction in a Travel Air Biplane powered by a World War I

surplus Curtiss OX-5 V-8 engine. Vern soloed on October 7, 1928 after 16 hours of dual

instruction from James Cook. He was an active pilot and aviation enthusiast until his death in 1992.
