MONTANA COLLEGE FAIR faq’s
Student online registration for fairs
New this year: StriveScan registration / scanning technology for fair events This year, Montana Post Secondary Educational Opportunities Council fairs are proud to announce we have partnered with StriveScan to bring electronic student scanning to all of our fall 2020 college fairs. StriveScan is trusted by more than 2,000 colleges and universities around the world. Using the StriveScan mobile app, college representatives will be able to easily scan students’ barcodes to collect their information. After the fair, students receive a report of all of the colleges with whom they scanned, along with the contact info of each representative.
StriveScan is the student scanning provider for college fairs around the country.
StriveScan’s student registration process is easier and faster for students and does not require printing.
The student registration website is now: www.strivescan.com
Colleges receive better data from students and the process is immediate for them.
Each fair host and invited schools will be able to monitor student registration in real‐time. Fair reports will also be available shortly after the event which will include information on attendance, high school representation, and more.
Why should I encourage a student to register? Overall, the registration process for a student is simple and makes the college fair experience much more efficient and enjoyable. No need to complete prospect cards at each college table. This allows your fairs to go green! Each student will fill out a registration form online and provide their information only once, elaborating on their academic interests and more. This increases face‐to‐face time for both the admissions representative and the student. Students register once for a barcode and allow colleges to scan their barcodes to share their information. 24 hours after the fair, each student will receive a report via email with the list of colleges with whom they scanned as well as the contact information for each representative. Watch a two‐minute intro video on how it works at: www.strivescan.com
How do students register for their barcodes? Registration is easy and takes less than two minutes. Students go to www.StriveFair.com to fill out the registration form on their phone, computer, Chromebook, etc. Students will receive their barcode via email and text message immediately after registering. Students will receive a reminder barcode 2 hours before the fair begins. Student can display their barcode on the phone or print the barcode before the fair. (Printing is completely optional.)
How may I promote the use of the barcode to each student? We will be sending you registration cards if you would like, so you can give those directly to your students to help with the registration process. We also suggest posting the flyers in the school hallways. You can also consider using the registration as a homework assignment, where the student presents their barcode as completion of the assignment. Post the registration information in the school’s newsletter and on the website. Some counselors have mentioned that they like to announce the registration process during a class assembly or during student orientation. We are here to help if you need anything however. Please do not hesitate to contact
us. In your online form submission you can designate how many registration cards you would like us to mail you in the fall.
Is it possible for a student to register on their mobile phone? Yes, a student may use their mobile phone to access the www.strivescan.com webpage to register. We always suggest a paper copy of the barcode in the event that there are technical errors the day of the event.
May I, as a counselor, also get information from colleges with a barcode? Yes, counselors may register for their own barcode at: www.StriveCounselor.com. We will be offering some training webinars in the fall to help make sure you feel comfortable, and we answer all your questions. Keep an eye out for these webinar offerings in early fall before the fairs.

MONTANA FALL EVENTS FAQ’S
IN THE TIME OF COVID-19
What if covid-19 restrictions are still in place come fall? With COVID-19, we want you to know that we are committed to still offering our fall events for the September College Fairs, Counselor Update, Guide Book To Higher Education, and more. As we all are still unsure of what fall will bring, we are planning for all options. Therefore, we are asking you to confirm your details for the fall fairs in the case that we are able to still host live, in-person events. Please know that safety is a priority to us in this, and we will only offer these events live if we are certain is a safe route for everyone. However, we are working on virtual programming for these fairs if live events are still restricted. Please keep an eye out for updates throughout the summer while we will be monitoring this situation very closely. Thank you for your understanding and team efforts in this, as we all learn together. Please share any questions, concerns, thoughts you may have. We are here to help keep this service strong for students in whichever option is possible. Thank you for helping plan for either option at this point. We will keep in contact over the summer and early fall with final details.
Where can we find updates throughout the summer and early fall about this? We will keep in contact over the summer and early fall with final details and posting updates for you on our website @ www.MontanaColleges.com/resources & www.MontanaColleges.com/fall . We also with any major changes and updates we will also email your email directly to the email that we have on file in the Montana Counselor Directory. Please make sure to check your email listing in the directory to make sure it is accurate and that the email [email protected] is saved from your spam filters. Please feel free to contact us any time throughout the summer and early fall, as we will be available in any way we can help. [email protected] or 406.351.3531. Thank you!
Are you looking into a back-up – virtual event option? Yes, as we all are unsure of what fall will bring, we are planning for all options. Please know that safety is a priority to us in this, and we will only offer these events live if we are certain is a safe route for everyone. However, we are working on virtual programming option for these fairs in case live, in-person events are still restricted. We tested a virtual option this spring and it had strong success with over 100,000 students participating nationwide. Therefore, if we are unable to gather in person, we are confident in still offering a strong service to you, your students, school, parents, and beyond. Please keep an eye out for updates throughout the summer while we will be monitoring this situation very closely and keeping you updated over email and on our website. Thank you for your understanding and team efforts in this, as we all learn together. Please share any questions, concerns, thoughts you may have.
Will the student online registration be the same if a virtual event takes place of live events? Either way, with a live event or a virtual event, we will use the same electronic registration process to keep things easy for you and your students. See the Registration FAQ page in this packet for more details on this process.
How will students meet & connect with colleges in the virtual event? We are still fine-tuning all these details, but we tested this model this spring with a nationwide program that had over 100,000 students participate. Therefore, we are excited to share another successful virtual model if needed. Please keep an eye out for updates throughout the summer while we will be monitoring this situation very closely and keeping you updated over email and on our website. Thank you for your understanding and team efforts in this, as we all learn together. Please share any questions, concerns, thoughts you may have.
Will counselor & Parents be able to participate in the virtual event too? Absolutely!! We love for you, parents, other school staff, etc. to be a part of the live and/or virtual event! Help spread the word in any way you can. Everyone is invited to attend the event for free either in person or virtually. Will we still be having the annual counselor update in the fall? Absolutely!! We will still be offering our fall Counselor Update in either a live event and/or a virtual event, and we hope to have you part of that event once again too. Keep an eye out for more details this summer and early fall. Thank you for your team efforts to help students together especially during this unique time!
