Control units RCBK and RCMU and control panel RCCA are control function units in the Bevent Rasch type approved monitoring system MRB for auto- matic control and monitoring of connected dampers and detectors. If there are any faults or alarms, the system switches over to alarm operation. Smoke detectors with service alarms are used to avoid alarm operation because of dirty detectors. Choice of control systems The basic rules for choice of system: RCBK is used as a decentralised system with the unit located adjacent to the dampers monitored. Up to 4 dampers and 4 detectors can be connected, divided into 2 groups. An alarm can be connected onwards from RCBK. For larger numbers of dampers, or for installations which are adapted to suit the tenants, the RCBK can be connected in a network via a two-wire bus to the main central unit RCCA, located centrally. On an installation with a Lon-Works ® network, RCBK can be connected to the network via the RCON adap- ter unit. RCMU is used as a decentralised system with the unit located adjacent to the dampers monitored. Up to 8 dampers and 8 detectors can be connected, divided into 4 groups. An alarm can be connected onwards from RCMU. For larger numbers of dampers, or for installations which are adapted to suit the tenants, the RCMU can be connected in a network via a two-wire bus to the main central unit RCCA, located centrally. RCMU can also be connected to a Lon Works ® net- work after changing the panel front to RCMU-LW. RCCA is the main central unit in a centralised system where the RCBK and/or RCMU control units are used as local sub-centres. The main central unit RCCA can be connected in a network via a two-wire bus to the RCBK/RCMU sub-centres. RCCA is available in two configurations: RCCA8 - for connection of max. 8 units of RCBK or 4 units of RCMU (with a max. of 8 x 4 dampers). Choice of control systemsThe basic rules for choice of system:• RCBK is used as a decentralised system with the unit

located adjacent to the dampers monitored.

On an installation with a Lon-Works® network, RCBK can be connected to the network via the RCON adap-ter unit.

• RCMU is used as a decentralised system with the unit located adjacent to the dampers monitored.

RCMU can also be connected to a Lon Works® net-work after changing the panel front to RCMU-LW.

DETECTOR FAULTS are indicated by separate red LEDs marked "DETECTORS FAIL" for each loop with following functions:- LED on 0,1 seconds, off 0,1 seconds at short-circuit of loop

DETECTOR ALARM is indicated by separate redLEDs marked "DETECTORS ALARM" for each detector loop by continual illumination

DETECTOR SERVICE is indicated by a yellow LED with the same functions as DAMPER FAULTS above.

ResetThe reset button "RESET" is used to reset all alarms. After activation, the microprocessor does a self-test, memory test and "EPROM" test. All LEDs are lit up for visual inspection, the output relays are activated and after this, a check of all connected dampers is made.

FunctionRCBK 3 is a microprocessor controlled intelligent self-monitoring control unit, sub-divided into two groups, A and B, to which up to 2 dampers and 2 detectors per group can be connected. RCBK 3 either functions as an autonomous control unit making automatic function checks every 48 hours after start-up/reset, or can be connected to a main central unit via a network for central registration, control and monitoring. RCBK 3 may also be connected to a Lon Works® network via the adapter unit RCON. Function tests can be performed via an external contact. RCBK 3 is based on electronic circuits that automati-cally configures all outputs where damper actuators are connected. A miniature switch, DIP- switch, marked "X-koppl." is used for setting detector functions as follows:– Either detector group A affects damper group A and

detector group B affects damper group B (pos = 0)– or both damper groups are affected irrespective of the

detector group which has triggered (pos = ON)This permits the RCBK 3 to be used in several indepen-dent ventilation systems. The detector outputs have elec-tronic short-circuit protection. All connected dampers go to the alarm position if there is a short circuit or inter-rup-tion in any of the detector loops. RCBK 3 can switch to the alarm operation mode via external incoming alarms.

Alarm functionsThe operating parameters are easy to change, since they are programmed in a so-called "EPROM".The RCBK 3 control unit has relay outputs for general alarm (A-alarm) and service alarm (B-alarm).The general alarm is given for:Faults in a detector loop - Tripped detector - Damper faults - External alarm - Voltage failure - System faults and communication faults. The service alarm is given if there is a dirty detector. Each alarm relay has a switching potential-free contact, 24 V AC, 3 A.

After these checks, the RCBK 3 reverts to normal operation.External reset of incoming alarm is possible by activate input "External function check". External reset of other alarms are not possible. Not used with network connec-tions.

Night operationFrom an external, closing, potential-free contact the pa-nel is put into night operation position. In this mode all connected dampers are closed without any alarm. This function is used e.g. ventilation plant with intermittent operation. Can not be used with network connections.

Interlock of fansIf you want to stop the ventilation unit during a func-tion check or for alarm operation, there is a built-in relay 24V AC, 3A. With a miniature switch, DIP switch, marked "Fördröjning" you can choose a five minutes delay for the damper closing with automatic function checks. This is to be used when you have electrical heating coils in the ventilation unit. Relay is activated during night operation. In the event of a damper fault, the above-mentioned functions are not affected.

Connection in a networkWhen the RCBK 3 is connected in a network to the RCCA main central unit. The central unit orders the functions to be executed by the RCBK 3.If any fault occurs in the network during network operation, the RCBK 3 will change to alarm mode at the same time as a general alarm will be given. If RCBK is to be connected to a Lon Works® network, the RCON adapter unit is used.

Alarm functionsThe operating parameters are easy to change, since they are programmed in a so-called "EPROM".The RCMU control unit has relay outputs for general alarm (A-alarm) and service alarm (B-alarm).The general alarm is given for:Faults in a detector loop - Tripped detector - Damper faults - External alarm - Voltage failure - System faults and communication faults. The service alarm is given if there is a dirty detector. Each alarm relay has a switching potential-free contact, 24 V AC, 3 A.

Display25 LEDs are installed to monitor the operational status of the control unit as follows:

OPERATION is indicated with a green LED, marked "POWER ON", as follows:- continual illumination when the RCMU operates auto-

nomously and is not connected to a network.- LED on 2 seconds, off 0.5 seconds in normal operation

when the RCMU is connected to a network.- LED on 0.1 seconds, off 0.1 seconds during network

failure.- off during voltage failure.

INTERLOCK OF FANS is indicated with a green LED marked "FAN ON" with continual illumination when out-put relay for interlock of fan is activated.

NIGHT OPERATION is indicated with a green LED marked "NIGHT CLOSE" with continual illumination when input is activated.

FUNCTION CHECK is indicated with a yellow LED marked "TEST" as follows:- continual illumination at internal check- LED on 2 sec., off 0,5 sec. at external function test.

EXTERNAL ALARM is indicated by a red LED marked "EXT.ALARM" with continual illumination when activated.

DAMPER FAULTS are indicated by separate red LEDs for each damper marked "DAMPER 1 FAIL / DAMPER 2 FAIL" with the following functions: - LED on 0,1 seconds, off 0,1 seconds at overloaded

output (all four LEDs flashing)- LED on 0,1 seconds, off 10 seconds when output is

connected, changes to LED on 2 seconds, off 0,5 se-conds when disconnected.

- off = output not connected

DETECTOR FAULTS are indicated by separate red LEDs marked "DETECTORS FAIL" for each loop with following functions:- LED on 0,1 seconds, off 0,1 seconds at short-circuit of loop

FunctionRCMU is a microprocessor controlled intelligent self-mo-nitoring control unit, sub-divided into four groups, A -D, to which up to 2 dampers and 2 detectors per group can be connected. RCMU either functions as an autonomous control unit making automatic function checks every 48 hours after start-up/reset, or can be connected to a main central unit via a network for central registration, con-trol and monitoring. RCMU can also be connected to a Lon Works® network after changing the panel front to RCMU-LW. Functioning testing can also be initiated via an external contact. During testing, damper group A+B is tested first, followed by C+D. RCMU is based on electronic circuits that automatically configures all outputs where damper actuators are con-nected. A miniature switch, DIP- switch, marked "X-koppl." is used for setting detector functions as follows:• The four detector groups A–D only affect the corre-

sponding damper groups.• The A and B groups are connected together into a

single group and close the corresponding damper groups, regardless of if the triggering detector is in the A group or B group; while the detectors in the C and D groups only affect the respective damper group.

• The C and D groups are connected together into a single group and close the corresponding damper groups, regardless of if the triggering detector is in the C group or D group; while the detectors in the A and B groups only affect the respective damper group.

• All groups are connected together and all dampers close, regardless of triggering detector.

This permits the RCBK 3 to be used in several indepen-dent ventilation systems. The detector outputs have elec-tronic short-circuit protection. All connected dampers go to the alarm position if there is a short circuit or inter-ruption in any of the detector loops. RCBK 3 can also switch to the alarm operation mode via external incoming alarms.

DETECTORS ALARM are indicated by separate redLEDs marked "DETECTORS ALARM" for each detector loop by continual illumination.

DETECTORS SERVICE is indicated by a yellow LED with the same functions as DAMPER FAULT above.

ResetThe reset button "RESET" is used to reset all alarms. After activation, the microprocessor does a self-test, memory test and "EPROM" test. All LEDs are lit up for visual inspection, the output relays are activated and after this, a check of all connected dampers is made. The A+B groupʼs dampers are tested first, followed by the C+D groupʼs dampers. If RCMU is to be connected to a Lon Works® network, the panel front is changed to RCMU-LW.

External alarmsThere are two inputs for external alarms – one for alarm operation of group A+B and one for group C+D. Can not be used with network connections.

Delay of function checkWith DIP-switch marked "Uppskjut. funk. test 12 h" in ON-position, next function check after start-up/reset will be done 12 hours afterwards and then automatic every 48 hours. This gives the opportonity to get the auto-matic function check in the night-time.

54

Control unit RCCA Alarm functionsThe RCCA control panel has output relays for a general alarm (A-alarm) and a service alarm (B-alarm).There is an output relay for starting/stopping a ventila-tion plant for function checking or alarm operation, with adjustable damper closing, for cooling off electrical heating coils.A general alarm is given for:– Faults in a detector loop– Tripped detector– Damper faults– Voltage failure– System faults and communication faults.Service alarms are triggered for fouled detectors. Each alarm relay has a switching potential-free contact, 24 V AC, 3 A. There is an input for external alarms.

HandlingTo simplify usage, the front panel has:– Press buttons for resetting, changing menus and

characters, enter and next port.– LEDs for presentation of the status of the 8 ports,

divided up into; communication fault, detector group alarm, detector group fault and detector group ser-vice.

– Illuminated display with Swedish text, showing time, operational status, menus, etc. The text can customi-sed for other languages, such as English or German.

Duty at alarm statusIn alarm operation, the display shows the port, i.e. the RCBK and/or RCMU sub-centres which is in alarm mode, and a number combination. The exact fault cause can be read from a translation table. The sub-division gives an exact indication of the cause of the alarm from all connected dampers and detector groups.

The following can be read off:– Extended closing/opening time during function check.– Position indication is missing from the actuators.– Damper closed because of a tripped thermal sensor.– Short-circuit or break in a detector circuit.During an alarm in several ports, a press button marked NEXT PORT flashes, which switches the display to the next port when pressed. The RESET button shuts off the internal siren when pressed, and zeroes the alarm/fault when pressed twice, and flashes when it can be activated. The 30 latest incidents can be read from the display. The unit has a built-in real time clock with automatic summer-winter time shift and battery backup. The inter-vals of whole days between, and exact times for regular function tests can be set on the display. It is possible to connect external units to the bus cable, such as:– Relay units (RCRL4) to control fans etc.– Addressable press buttons– Digital input units for control from central fire alarms,

etc. of type RCDI 4.– Printer or PC via an RS 232 data port.

FunctionRCCA is an encapsulated microprocessor controlled intelligent self-monitoring control unit, that is used as the main control centre for RCBK and RCMU control centres, which are used as local control centres.Communication between the RCCA and connected RCBK/RCMU units is via a two-wire bus cable with freely selectable topology, implemented in a linear, ring or star network. The control panel is available in two configurations:RCCA 8 has 8 ports and each can monitor 2 damper and detector groups of 2 units per group. A fully expanded network with RCCA 8 as the main control centre thus enables central registration, control and monitoring of up to 32 dampers and detectors, divided into 16 groups.RCCA 32 has 32 ports and each can monitor 2 damper and detector groups of 2 units per group. A fully expanded network with RCCA 32 as the main control centre thus enables central registration, control and monitoring of up to 128 dampers and detectors, divided into 64 groups. The sub-centre RCBK is divided into 2 damper and de-tector groups, and thus occupies a port in RCCA. The sub-centre RCMU is divided into 4 damper and detector groups and thus occupies 2 ports in RCCA.The RCBK/RCMU control units, connected in a network, changes over from being an autonomous units to being centrally controlled from the RCCA network control centre.RCCA performs automatic function tests; both point of time and time intervals are adjustable. If there is a communication fault, the RCBK or RCMU changes into alarm mode. The operational status of the RCBK or RCMU is indicated as described above. All acknowledgement/resetting of alarms is performed at the RCCA panel after faults are corrected, and not at the alarmed sub-centre RCBK/RCMU.

The following table shows the pre-programmed activities/section during alarms or faults.

Start-upRCCA is pre-programmed for safety operation on delivery. A password must be given to prevent un-authorised changes to settings.During configuration of the network, the RCCA allocates all operational and network connected RCBK/RCMU sub-centres a port(s) and section S1. Each sub-cen-tre has an individual serial number and two operation groups A and B (RCBK) or four operation groups A/B + C/D (RCMU). The operation group A-D is added to the port number. The user can thus identify the port to which the RCCA and the sub-centre have been connected, and their operation group, such as 4B. The panel has eight sections (S1–S8) that enable common or individual sequences for connected sub-centres – in the event of detector alarms or detector faults – by the user selecting the section to which a sub-centre shall be assigned.

SettingThe setting for each function is made after switch-on.
