THERES one problem beingmarried to a schoolteacher (well, maybe morethan one) but its a bigone you can only evergo on holiday whenschools out and the pri-ces are through the roof. However there is one place

youll be able to take the familythat wont break the bank dur-ing the school breaks MonessResort Aberfeldy.Last month myself, hubby Chris

and two-year-old son Seth packedthe car and headed north from Glas-gow. In just over 90 minutes wewere out of WiFi range in the mid-dle of the beautiful Perthshire High-lands. The scenery on the drive wasabsolutely spectacular. On arrival the friendly and helpful

staff checked us into our one-bed-room lodge for the next two nights.Fully furnished and equipped witheverything you need to make a homefrom home, the spotless accommoda-tion would comfortably sleep a

family of four. It had a lovely living-room and a kitchen with all youwould possibly need, as well as acomfortable bedroom and spaciousbathroom. The resort also has a selection of

beautiful two and three-bedroomself-catering holiday cottages manywith views overlooking the magnifi-cent Aberfeldy Hills available allyear round. The estate is also home to its very

own duck pond perfect to enter-tain a toddler, although make sureyou go armed with some bread! The cottages provide a great base

for a family to enjoy the wide rangeof activities and attractions in thesurrounding area with everything

from forest safari, off-road driving,to golfing and family bike trails. If youre not much of an adrenalin

junkie and prefer a more relaxingbreak, Moness offers the very bestspa therapy rooms in the most tran-quil and serene of environments. The spa staff will help you unwind

offering a wide range of beauty andcomplimentary therapies including:massage treatments, facials, reflexol-ogy and beauty maintenance.Having taken along a lively two-

year-old we found ourselves regularsin the onsite swimming pool andgames area.On the second day of our break

we took the short drive from Aber-feldy to the idyllic town of Pitlochry.I can quite easily say I have neverseen as many tea rooms on onestreet before, each proudly displayinghomemade treats and cakes thatwould impress Mary Berry. If a self-catering break isnt what

youre looking for, you can book into the hotel on the estate. Guests arehoused in a historic former huntinglodge which is now a 4H hotel withrooms individually styled offering arange of deluxe, superior or luxuri-ous suites. Despite opting for self-

catering we decided to make themost of our break and dine in TheFlemmyng Restaurant at the hotel. Itoffers an excellent choice of seasonalmeat, fish and game, all locallysourced and beautifully presented. The first night we enjoyed starters

of pork belly and Scottish crab, mains of pan-fried stone bass and aribeye steak cooked to perfection.Although the restaurant has a for-

mal feel to it, the staff were veryrelaxed with children and made surecrayons and colouring books were onstandby. There was also an extensive wine

list to choose from, all carefullyselected to pair with the menu. Or ifwhisky is your tipple, the bar stocksa fantastic range of malts. For a more relaxed dining

experience the hotels Terrace Grilloffers more traditional pub grub suchas burgers, salads, baguettes andsharing platters, all reasonablypriced. With comfortable accommodation,

great facilities and friendly helpfulstaff its safe to say well definitelybe back to Moness resort again albeit when schools out!
