Mondrian Animals Erin Schiltz  2 nd grade Art Class periods: 3 (45 min) Objectives: 1. Students will be able to display primary colors in a work of art. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate the use of line in art modeling Mondrian’s style. 3, Students will be able to explore the use of combined materials. District Standards: 1. Elements of Design(Line, Color, Shape, Form, Texture, Value and Space) a. Identify and apply lines, shapes, and colors in a work of art b. Apply line, shape, color and texture for creative self-expression. 2. Principles of Design (Unity, Rhythm, Pattern, Emphasis, Proportion, Variety, Balance) a. Recognize pattern in works of art. 3. Communicate Meaning (Subject Matter, Symbols, Ideas) a. Explore and recognize use of symbols, subject matter, ideas in own art work and the work of others. b. Apply grade level academic vocabulary: subject matter, line, shape, color, unity, symbols, pattern, rhythm, emphasis, landscape, sculpture, portrait, proportion, balance Materials: Crayons (Red, yellow or blue) Construction paper 12x18 Ruler White board Black permanent marker Dry erase marker pencil Procedural Steps: 1. I will ask the student’s to sit at the tables in their chairs. 2. Formative Assessment: I will show and discuss with students the works of Mondrian from the Mondrian PowerPoint. I will talk with them on how he used primary colors with line to create his works of art and the evolution of his art through the years. 3. I will then demonstrate on the white board how they are to trace around the stencils at their tables to create animals. Next they will use a ruler to create horizontal and vertical lines inside the animal. Following this they use crayons inside the animal with primary
