to our fourth Burlap and Barbed Wire female sale. We are excited to bring you this offering. These females represent the top cut from our individual herds and are sound, functional, profitable females that know how to work for a living.

This year we are pleased to welcome Klein Ranch as a sale partner. Both the cattle and the people behind them are a great fit here. We are sad that Dixson Farms could not be with us this year and hope they can join us again for future sales as their schedules allow. As always, we have a shared commitment to integrity and a vision of the importance of proven maternal value. Each of us goes about it in a slightly different way, but the focus is the same: build a better cow, and the rest will take care of itself. This year’s offering includes Simmental, SimAngus™, and Angus, along with a few Simmental x Hereford. There are fall pairs, spring opens and spring breds.

Because of our unwavering belief in selection for proven maternal traits without regard to the current popular bulls, you will find pedigrees at this sale which are complete outcross to many of the most popular lines of bulls. The mating flexibility provided by these outcross genetic packages presents a tremendous opportunity. We dare you not to notice her! Your Simmental mating choices are limitless with 107B and you can maximize your heterosis with eye appeal. She is extremely long, deep, smooth and has a great udder. An astute breeder can find opportunity with this one. Her 2016 Added Value calf is in the bull sale pen and her High Roller bull calf at side provides a quick return on investment.

124C goes back to one of our oldest cow families that excelled in longevity. She has a cool blaze on her face, a great udder and is correct in structure. Calving ease is built in (top 15% for CE and 10% for BW). Her solid red calf by Shear Force is a bonus.

29Z progeny are providing everything we could hope for - from calving ease through carcass to marketability. This is a black package from a red sire which provides mating flexibility. The track record on her dam is flawless and she is still producing at age 12 (she is on the back cover!). This is a feminine young cow with substance and she has a great udder. Her 29Z bull calf at side could pay for the package quickly.

It’s hard to part with Beef Maker daughters as they have been some of our very best cows. We have always been fond of this one and her cow family as a whole. If you want to talk EPDs, hers are balanced across the board from CE through carcass. She ranks in the top 3% for API. Klein Ranch Klein Ranch was established in 2005 with the mission to raise quality reg-istered Simmental and SimAngus that will excel for commercial cattlemen and breeders alike. We are located west of Atwood, KS. The operators and owners are Heath, Ami, Miles (5) and Hudson (1) Klein. Since 2009 AI and ET work has been an extensive part of the breeding program with emphasis in maternal

traits, calving ease, optimum growth and marbling. In our program, a cow must be fertile, have sound feet, good milking ability and disposition. Our cattle genet-ics range from ½ Simmental ½ Angus to purebred Simmental with majority of the herd being Simangus and having a solid black or red color.

In 2010, we started marketing our yearling bulls at Dixson Farms Simmen-tal Silent Auction. In addition to selling bulls we have marketed our feeder cattle through Tri-State Livestock and have sold finished cattle on a value grid basis. Our registered cattle and commercial herd are managed the same way. Because of this management, we believe that these females will excel in any environment put in front them.

Burgman FarmsBurgman Farms consists of David and Jane Burgman and our children, Jada (17) and Brock (12), and our cattle and horses. We have a mixed operation of registered and commercial Angus which are managed together. Because we all four work together (and oftentimes only Jane, Jada, and Brock accomplish the livestock duties), our cattle have to be easy to handle and gentle, besides being

productive, honest cows. Quality ud-ders, disposition, calf performance, and fertility are traits that we place a heavy emphasis on when selecting females for our herd. Each year we rely heavily on crop residue and/or dormant grass, and generally feed a lot of wheat straw as roughage in the winter. Over the years,

our program has shifted marketing our cattle. We now primarily sell spring calves off the cow at weaning in early September. Due to this change, we do not collect weaning weights since we no longer run the entire herd through the chutes. Please do not let this dissuade you, as our calves still perform and offer the same solid genetic material as before.

Hofmann Simmental Farms (Rodney & Kim) began in 1979 when Rodney first started raising Simmentals. Our pro-gram, which is total AI and ET, is based upon using proven AI sires with partic-ular emphasis placed on calving ease and maternal traits. Optimum growth and disposition are also given high priority. To us, good beef cattle are cattle that do their job, regardless of their color or

purebred status. We strive for a cow herd that produces quality bulls and females for commercial cattlemen and purebred breeders alike. Our bulls are market-ed off the farm in the spring through a unique, buyer-friendly sale. Our cull stock has been marketed through several different venues over the years. We have fed both on the farm and in

custom feedlots, always selling through a value-based grid. We have also sold through the local barn, just as some of our commercial bull buyers do. These experiences have provided invaluable knowledge about how our cattle perform and sell. We are increasingly experi-menting with alternative forages in this day of higher input costs and limited availability of grass.
