Virtue Award Recipients

First Grade: Maura Kleissler  Maura participates in Mass each week and will often make connections from the message we heard during Mass to what we are discussing in the classroom. She also brings up saints that her family discusses at home and will often share what she has learned with the class.   Second Grade: Emilia Agusti-Stelzer Emilia treats her peers with kindness and does not pass judgement on others. She is mindful during prayer and truly lives her life with Christ at the room of her heart.   Third Grade: Penelope Curcuru  Poppy is an excellent example of piety. She is always kind to others, treating them with gentleness and compassion, just as Jesus would. When she attends Mass, her reverent disposition shows that she’s truly present at all times.   Fourth Grade: Ellie Holden  In the classroom, Ellie is very intentional during our prayerful moments. She shares her faith with joy and enthusiasm, yet shows a level of piety that is both refreshing and respected. St. Francis is attributed to have said, “Preach the Gospel at all times and if necessary use words.” Ellie shares the Gospel in her actions both in the classroom and on the playground.   Fifth Grade: Gloria Stahl  Gloria shows piety in her life by demonstrating a reverence for God and showing devotion to her faith. The first time I noticed this was the first week of school when we heard the nearby sirens of an ambulance. She quietly said a little prayer and made the sign of the cross. Gloria is not afraid to pray, think or live in a way that visibly demonstrates her love and devotion to God.   Sixth Grade: Thomas Steck  Thomas sets a good example for others by his reverence during Mass. During prayer songs and reflection he shows respect for others’ views. Thomas also uses the virtue of piety during class by always demonstrating the ability to follow procedures. He is respectful to his classmates and teachers.   Seventh Grade: Luca Andrews  Luca was a natural choice for this award as he demonstrates this virtue regularly by being a dutiful and obedient student. He shows the utmost respect to his teachers everyday. He is also very reflective and respectful when participating in class discussions, and always makes sure to be considerate of the feelings of his fellow classmates when answering or giving an opposing viewpoint. He is a judicious student who always strives to serve God as he goes about his daily activities. God job, Luca!   Eighth Grade: Ginnie Steck Piety is to give worship to God as our Father and to relate to all people as children of the same Father. Ginnie personifies this every day. It is evident that she loves God because she shows respect for all people. She is inclusive of others and tries to be just in all she does. She cares for all of God’s creation and fights for justice for those who have been wronged. When faced with struggles, she steps back, assesses the situation and figures out a way to make it work without damaging her morals and/or other’ feelings. She is strong in her faith and uses it to help her in her daily situations.

GET HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Did you know that in the US 23  million children and teens face increased risk of the premature onset of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, juvenile diabetes, obesity, degenerative joint disease and cancer?  Besides medical issues, there are also problems with self-esteem, social discrimination and psychological issues that can impact educational performance. That is the reason that HAPPY (Healthy Active Positive Purposeful Youth) was started.  Founder Haile Thomas now 18, started this nonprofit when she was only twelve years old Her mission is to empower kids with knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy lifestyle choices. You can sign up for their newsletter and follow their blog which has all kinds of great suggestions for involving kids and getting kids to make healthier food choices.  One of the most recent was “How to Get Your Kids to Eat Their Veggies.” Check it out at https://www.thehappyorg.org
