No injuries from the fire were reported at the two-and-a-half story wooden build- ing at the end of Noble Street, located in Mauricetown. “The basement was scorched up pretty good,” said Mauricetown Fire Company Chief Donald Hundt, Sr. Damage was also done to the heater and some melting of the copper pipes in the basement was reported, Hundt said. “It was hot in the basement,” he stat- ed. Fortunately, most of the damage was contained to that area and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spread- ing to the above portions of the building. Hundt said he wasn’t positive on the age of the historic building but the one woman who lived there got out safely. The report came in at 1:59 and was deemed under control around 3:30 a.m. Fire departments from Port Norris, Laurel Lake, Millville, Leesburg and Port Elizabeth responded to the blaze, as did the Millville Rescue Squad.
