Join us and learn all about different services available to assist you with parenting. We will offer health insurance enrollment, free HIV testing, educational materials, and child-rearing tips. Giveaways, toys, and healthy snacks will be provided. Participants include the Office of Health Services, BCC Early Childhood Center, Single Stop, NYC Child Resource Center, and Early Childhood Intervention. Freshman Convocation Thursday, February 16, 12 - 1:15 p.m., in Gould Memorial Library Auditorium The Office of Student Life cordially invites all faculty and staff to join us in welcoming our new freshman and transfer students at Freshman Convocation. Our keynote speaker, Erica Williams, is currently a senior strategist at Citizen Engagement Lab (CEL), an incubator for tech-savvy, people-powered projects that help communities build power for social change. Her discussion with students will focus on the importance of being personally engaged with both local and global issues. She has been regularly featured on a wide variety of programs reaching broad audiences, from HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, to BET and MTV. Dubbed “The Future” by Dr. Cornel West, Ms. Williams is an O Magazine “Women Rule Leadership Award” winner. Then, put on your dancing shoes! Freshman Convocation will conclude with a vibrant musical performance by the Hungry March Band, a New Orleans-style marching band. This 15-plus member band has earned a reputation for mythical revelry, performing at a variety of fine venues and celebrated events. Empower Yourself - Register to Vote! Not be declared mentally incompetent by a court. 6. Not claim the right to vote elsewhere (outside New York City). Key dates to remember: March 30 is the last day to register for this year’s election. April 24 is the Presidential primary. April 17 is the last day to postmark a written request for an absentee ballot. April 23 is the last day to submit/postmark absentee ballot. You are invited to visit the team and share your comments at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. in Language Hall, President’s Conference Room.

Free HIV Testing Thursdays, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. (For all age groups) and 4 - 6 p.m. (For ages 16-24), in Loew Hall, Room 101

The Hispanic AIDS Forum and Mount Sinai Medical Center will offer free, confidential oral HIV testing and counseling to the campus community. No needles; results in 20 minutes. Visit the Health Services Office in Loew Hall, room 101 for a free HIV test.

Bring your family, neighbors and friends to BCC’s 34th Annual Hall of Fame 10K Run, 5K Run, and the Michael Steuerman 2-Mile Fitness Walk. The race starts and finishes on campus. Trophies will be awarded to winners in both the 10K and 5K runs, with special prizes for first and second place male and female winners. All race participants are eligible to win raffle prizes.

You must be present to win. Refreshments will be served after the race. The early registration deadline is Friday, April 27 at 3 p.m. Early registration fee is $15; BCC students with validated ID, $7; grades K through 12, $5. Day of race registration fee is $20. Free Metro Cards If you are working and receiving food stamps, with or without Medicaid, and if you were receiving cash assistance and lost it due to employment, you may qualify for unlimited, free metro cards! Stop by the College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment (C.O.P.E.) office in Loew Hall, room 117, and pick up an employment verification form to see if you qualify. The C.O.P.E. office is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
