Significant Weather Features

♦ The Low Pressure Area lies over north interior Odisha & neighbourhood. It is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 2-3 days.

♦The western parts of the monsoon trough runs south of its normal position eastern parts runs near normal position and an east-west shear zone in mid-tropospheric level roughly along Lat. 17°N across Peninsular India tilting southwards with height.

Under the influence of the above system:

i) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with Isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar & Jharkhand during next 24 hours and over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining East Rajasthan during 22nd-24th Sept, 2020.

ii) Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also very likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 22nd; over East Uttar Pradesh on 23rd and over Assam & Meghalaya on 22nd & 23rd Sept, 2020.

♦ Moderate thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya during next 12 hours.

♦ Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at most places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep; at many places over Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim and Kerala & Mahe; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Saurashtra & Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, North & South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Vidarbha Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

♦ Yesterday, heavy rainfall observed at isolated places over Odisha.

♦ Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hrs IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand and Odisha.

♦ Maximum Temperature Departures as on 21-09-2020: Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over Uttarakhand and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Punjab and Uttar Pradesh; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and West Rajasthan; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places over Gujarat and Konkan & Goa. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over Rayalaseema; at a few places over Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Chhattisgarh and at isolated places over Telangana and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Interior Karnataka, Vidarbha and Marathwada; at a few places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 40.5°C was reported at Jaisalmer (West Rajasthan).

♦ Minimum Temperature Departures as on 21-09-2020: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Uttar Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Gujarat State, Vidarbha and Gangetic West Bengal.They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0°C was reported at Khargone(West Madhya Pradesh) over the plains of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ The Low Pressure Area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal now lies over north interior Odisha & neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 2 days.

♦ The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Jaipur, Guna, Jabalpur, Pendra Road and thence east-southeastwards to the center of low pressure area over north interior Odisha and neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

♦ The east-west shear zone roughly along Lat. 17°N across Peninsular India between 3.1 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height across the cyclonic circulation associated with the above Low Pressure Area persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over north Maharashtra coast & neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.
