Significant Weather Features

♦ The Low Pressure Area lies over north interior Odisha & neighbourhood. It is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 2-3 days.

♦The western parts of the monsoon trough runs south of its normal position eastern parts runs near normal position and an east-west shear zone in mid-tropospheric level roughly along Lat. 17°N across Peninsular India tilting southwards with height.

Under the influence of the above system:

i) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with Isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar & Jharkhand during next 24 hours and over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining East Rajasthan during 22nd-24th Sept, 2020.

ii) Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also very likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 22nd; over East Uttar Pradesh on 23rd and over Assam & Meghalaya on 22nd & 23rd Sept, 2020.

♦ Moderate thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya during next 12 hours.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ The Low Pressure Area over north coastal Odisha and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal now lies over north interior Odisha & neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 2 days.

♦ The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Jaipur, Guna, Jabalpur, Pendra Road and thence east-southeastwards to the center of low pressure area over north interior Odisha and neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

♦ The east-west shear zone roughly along Lat. 17°N across Peninsular India between 3.1 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height across the cyclonic circulation associated with the above Low Pressure Area persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over north Maharashtra coast & neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 27th September, 2020

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ No significant change in temperatures very likely over most parts of the country during next 3-4 days.
