Molitoris Leadership Scholarship for Undergraduates

Part of the WTS goal of fostering the development of women in the transportation field can be realized by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. The Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is awarded to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field that demonstrate leadership skills, ability, and interest. The purpose of the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is to motivate and reward women who demonstrate leadership in the transportation industry. The leadership, skills and perspective of women are essential to assure that the transportation systems of the future respond to the needs of all. Leadership does not just happen. Leaders personally invest and risk much. They must take on struggles that many would avoid and persevere to reach successful outcomes. These qualities should receive special attention in the selection of the award winner. The Northeast Florida Chapter of WTS is accepting applications for the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship for Undergraduates through November 18, 2011. Undergraduate students seeking either an associates degree or bachelors degree in Northeast Florida are encouraged to apply. The recipient of the WTS Northeast Florida scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship and their application will be forwarded for consideration of the international scholarship in the amount of $3,000. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows: a. Open to women b. GPA of 3.0 or higher

c. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Northeast Florida* in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics

d. Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field e. Applicants for the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship are asked to specifically address

the issue of leadership on their personal statement.

Applications must be submitted through the local WTS Northeast Florida chapter. The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation goals, academic record and transportation-related activities or job skills. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply. The WTS Northeast Florida Chapter’s $1,000 scholarship will be presented at the local Awards and Recognition Event in January 2012. National awards will be presented on May 10, 2012 in Denver, Colorado and attendance at awards dinner is strongly recommended. The WTS Northeast Florida Chapter will assist with tranpsortation to the awards dinner. *Northeast Florida is considered Baker County, Clay County, Columbia County, Duval County, Nassau County, and St. Johns County.

2. Send signed original letters of recommendation, original transcripts, proof of registration and signature page of application to the following address: Michelle Borton

Applicants must address the issue of leadership, its importance in a transportation career and the applicant’s leadership achievements. Statement should not exceed 500 words or two pages. Please attach to application form. VI. Proof of Enrollment: Attach a copy of your tuition receipt or current registration card.
