The highly styled character of aPericline Series Luminaire tends toconceal the fact that it is a powerfullighting tool. No compromises have

been made in its optical desiqn jor thesake of appearance. As illustrated inFigure 1 below, every Pericline pro-vides: 1)Sharp cutoff o{ fixture bright-ness at no.mal viewing angles forincreased comfort, visibility, and controlot light trespass; 2) High angle, high

candlepower main beam enabling widespacing for systems energy efficiency;

3) Controlled, uni{orm light distri-bution ensuring excellent maximum,/minimum uniformity ratios which

contributes to outstanding systemsvisibility.

Sharp cut1ff 1ptical systen pr1ducesglare free, uniforn illunination

The Pericline Series employs a dualreflector optical system lFigurc 2)lhalprecisely distributes light over wideareas. Maximum intensities strike theground at approximately 2% times theluminaire mounting height. The conven-tronal "hot spot" beneath the lumrnaireis redistributed to provide increased

light between poles. Above 76o. thebeam ol light sharply diminishes, leaving the luminaire glare-free. This sharpcutofl results from Moldcast's patentedShary Cutoff Ledge, which is unique to theMoldcast Pericline Series, rendering allimitation Pericline units inlerior in termsof sharp cutoff. ln an outdoor environ-ment, light which is produced at anglesabove 76o will enter normalviewingangles, causing disabling brightness.This area above 760 from vertical repre-sents the glare zone. However, in orderlo provrde the most efficient luminairespacing while maintaining glare control,a luminaire must produce peak candle-power as close to this 760 cutolf pointas possible. Moldcast has always usedthe strictest criteria in the outdoorlighting industry for measuring cutoffperformance, embodied in our 1O,/1Otheory ol sharp cutoff. This definitionrequires peak candlepower to be nomore than 1O" below the sharp cutoffpoint, and sharp cutot{ to be a reductionof intensity to less than 1O percent ofpeak candlepower at any angle in theglare zone.

The luminairePericline Series

Genenl(Connon to all Pericline series):

Electrical

The luminaire shall be U.L. listed (and carry a

label) suilable for outdoor wel locations.Ballast shall be high power factor, constantwattage autotransformer (CWA) or highreactance autotransformer type suitable for-20oF operation. HPS ballasts with +/-5%line voltage shall provide lamp wattagewithin the ANSI C78 trapezoid limitations forthe specified lamp. Metal Halide ballast with+,/-10% line voltage regulation shall providelamp wattage within +/- 1oo/o ol rcled.

The luminaire shall be prewired with typeSFF-2 silicon insulated, stranded wired ratedfor 150oC. Leads shall be brought outthrough the slipfitter with at least 12 inchesextending to facilitate line connection.

FinishThe luminaire shall be finished with apremium, abrasion and fade resistant,electrostatically applied, oven cured polyesterpowder coating. The coating shall be anominal 2.0 mils thick. The color shall be(refer to available color). All hardware shallbe stainless steelor coated for corrosionresistance.

Construction

The lumrnarre shall consist of three basrcconstruction elementsr 1 ) an upper,aluminum housing; 2)a lower, clear plasticenclosure and 3)a support assembly. The

support assembly shall be designed to rigidlysuppon the upper housing so that no weightor force beyond that required to compress thegasketing shall bear on the lower, plasticenclosure. Also the loss or failure of theplastic enclosure shall not render theluminaire inoperable or expose the lamp todirect rainfall. Other construction detailsshall be as described below. (Refer toapplicable Pericline Series.l

Shall be of aluminum construction with agasketed, removable top access cover forrelamping. The upper housing shall containthe collecting reflector which surrounds thelamp. lt shall be furnished with a concealedspider bracket (ot diecast aluminum in theSmall Luminaire models and of coated steelin the lntermediate and Large Luminairemodels) which rigidly connects to the supportassembly yet allows removal of the upperenciosure for servicing the plastic enclosureand ballast.

Iower. Plastic EnclosureShall be clear, U.V. resistant acrylic. Theenclosure shall be injection molded in theSmall Rectilinear model (Series 7100O) andfabricated ol %" thick material in thelntermediate and Large Rectilinear models(Series 76000 and 77000)and allthreeCylindrical models {Series 72000, 78000 and79000). Polycarbonate and OR acrylic enclo-sures are available (see ordering informationfor applicability). Gasketing between theplastic enclosure and the upper housing atthe top and the support assembly at thebottom shall provide bug-tight weathertight

operation.

Support AssenblyShall consist of a steel frame hidden withinthe distributing reflector which fastens to thespider bracket of the upper housing andsupports the ballast. The steel frame shall beconnected to an aluminum neck/fitter whichsupports the plastic enclosure and whichterminates in a slipfitter designed for a 2%"O.D. by 4" high tenon for moonting theluminaire.

Photonetric PerfomanceThe lighting system, when installed, shallmeet the requirements specified in the plans.lndividual luminaires composing the systemshall perform in accordance with the isofoot-candle distribution curves reJerenced and /orshown in the plans. Also, the individual lumi-naires are to specifically meet the followingcritical perf ormance criteria:

1. The peak intensity shall occur no lower

than 670 above veftical.2. The sharp cutoff point (i.e. that pointlocated upward from the peak angle atwhich beam intensity falls to less than1/1oth that of the peak) shall occur nohigher than 10o above the angle of peakjntensity.

Traditional - Series 73000Upper Enclosure

The Upper Enclosure shall be an assemblywith an ornamental external design asdetailed in the plans. lt shall consist of ahinged top assembly housrng, ll-e aux lrarycollecting ref lector, the collecting ref lectorand a lower support frame. The assemblyshdll be rabflcaled all aluminum constructronand shall be formed lrom 14 gauge alJm,num sheet. The top assembly shall beattached to the lower support frame by meansof two hinges and shall be fastened in placeby means of screws on the side opposite thehinges.

Iower EnclosureThe Lower Enclosure shall be single piece,vacuum molded, UV stabilized,

clear acryliclens approximately 1 1 .25" high, a.75"square at the bottom and 16.5" square at thetop. The lens shall be designed such that itfits secorely within the corner frames formedby the lens frame portion of the upperhousing support. Gasketing shall be spongeneoprene and shall be bonded to the upperhousing support frame and lower enclosuresupport plate. The gaskets shallform apositive seal against the top and bottom o{the plastic enclosure to provide bugtight,weathertight operation. (Note: An optionalpolycarbonate lens is available).

Suppoft AssenblyThe Support Assembly shall be an allaluminum construction fabricated assemblyconsisting of a lens lrame,/upper housingsupport, cast aluminum ballast housing andcast aluminum sliptitter. The ballast shall bemounted on a tray and shall be readily removable through an access door in thehousing. The slipfitter shall accommodate atenon 23/a" O.D. by 4" high ot 3" O.D. by 3y,"high in the single luminaire models,23%"O.D by 4" hrgh only rn the multiple lumtnatremodels.

Victorian - Series 74000Arabesque - Series 75000

Upper EnclosureThe Upper Enclosure shall be an assemblywith an ornamental external design asdetailed in the plans. lt shall consast of ahinged top assembly housing, the auxiliarycoJlecting retlector, the collecting reflectorand a lower support frame. The assemblyshall be fabricated all aluminum constructionand shall be spun from 14 gauge aluminumsheet. The top assembly shall be attached tolhc lower support frame by means of a hrngeand shall be fastened in place by means of ascrew. The lower support frame shall besecurely attached to the yoke support ring bymeans of four (4) screws working throughkeyhole slots.

Lower EnclosureThe lower enclosure shall be one piece,injection molded polycarbonate with a U.V.resistant coating. The enclosure shall have adiameter of 13" and shall be 157," high witha clear upper section, 113/a" high, and adiftuse lower section. Gasketing shall bebonded to the upper housing support ringand lower enclosure support plate. Thegaskets shall form a positive seal against thetop and bottom oI the plastic enclosure toprovide bugtight, weathertight operation.

Support AssenblyThe Support Assembly shall be an allaluminum construction fabricated assemblyconsisting of a yokelupper housing support,cast aluminum lens/ballast suppo( and castaluminum slipfitter- The ballast shall bemounted to the lower support plate and shallbe concealed by a white polyester powdercoated, spun aluminum enclosure. {Note:Theballast enclosure itself shall be concealed bythe diffuse bottom of the lens). The slipfittershall accommodate a tenon 2ys" O.D. by 4"high or 3" O.D. by 3%" high in the singleluminaire models, 23%" O.D. by 4" high onlyin the multiple luminaire models.
