It seems like only yesterday it was February 2017 and our new Elks year was ramping up with elections and committees in place and here we are in January 2018! December saw us participate in the Hoop Shoot, Elks Memorial, the Dictionary Project, celebrate the Christmas holidays, our Lodges 60th

birthday, other birthday celebrations, a Major Project fundraiser and an ENF fundraiser, and I want to say how grateful I am to everyone that stepped in to make each event a success. Individually we can’t do every-thing but we can all do “something”.I dare not name names since I know I would be leaving someone out, but if you worked in the kitchen, the clubroom, the meeting room, the trap range, the gym, the school or even worked at home to help with any of these events, your efforts have been appreciated. Your enthusiasm, persistence, and caring are what has allowed this lodge to keep going over the past 60 years and with some effort we’ll make it another 60 as we bring in new members and share the good works. May you have dreams and goals to keep you looking forward to possibilities in 2018 and may health and happiness, peace and prosperity be with you the whole year through.

Happy New Year ! ! It's that time again. Time to think about the Officers that will lead our Lodge for the next Elk year. I hate to use that phrase because it insinuates "out with the old and in with the new" and nothing could be more untrue. We need experi-enced members in the chairs.

Current Officers should be encouraged to move up. Most importantly, the Exalted Ruler and Secretary should be members with some knowledge about the Grand Lodge and State organizations. The E.R. and Secretary are not "on the job training" positions. Mem-bers in those positions must be available to attend State (May) and Mid-Term (Nov) Conventions and all D.D.G.E.R. training clinics. The E.R. must also attend the National Convention (Jul) in Texas. Officer nominations will be opened at the first meeting in February (7th). Nominations will be completed and Officers elected at the second meeting (21st). Nomi-nees must be present to accept the position. A great big, well deserved, "Thank You ! !" goes out to the Lodge members and volunteers who worked on the Children's Christmas program. Two days wrapping presents and then the big day Saturday (23rd). Well over 300 children spoke to Santa Claus (aka PER Ted Hodgkinson), received a present and some snacks and left with a smile. Remember, Officer nominations are not accepted at the bar. Keep in mind, if you don't vote you can't complain. See you at the next meeting.
