Some use of counter-transference should also be demonstrated in the session. The recording should beaccurately transcribed and a CD or standard tape should be submitted with the transcript.

Intended Learning OutcomesDemonstrate an understanding for the current evidence base for psychological therapies.Demonstrate a working knowledge of commonly recommended therapeutic approaches that are underpinned by evidence ofefficacy.Support clients while in crisis by providing information about self-care strategies and other interventions.Demonstrate knowledge of cognitive behavioural interventions.Demonstrate knowledge of one model of brief psychodynamic therapy.

Teaching and Learning MethodsLectures, personal tutorials, directed reading, independent research, supervision of counselling placement clients.

Assessment Methods(a) A student 20 minute case presentation, using power point, of a client seen for 6 sessions or more. The presentation shouldinclude: psychodynamic formulation and treatment plan, data collected (e.g. attendance, CORE measures,) excerpts of audiorecordings, process notes etc. and reference to research and/or the evidence base for the treatment. Some examinationregarding the impact of extra-therapy explanations for client progress or decline should be included.

(b) A case commentary in respect of a recent client who has been seen for a minimum of six sessions (this should be thesame client presented in element a above) that should include: a copy of the above presentation; reference to research; theevidence base for the treatment; an examination of extra-therapy explanations for client progress or decline; and the influenceof supervision and the BACP ethical framework on your decision making.

(c) Recordings and transcriptions of two consecutive counselling sessions with the client presented in elements (a) and (b)above. Sessions should demonstrate competent psychodynamic counselling skills and appropriately boundaried clinical work.
