Shea Butter originates from the Karite Nut tree of West Africa. Shea Butter is obtained by crushing and pressing of the nuts of this tree to obtain the pure oil. Shea Butter is a wonderful emollient which nourishes, moisturizes and soothes the skin. At the same time it is highly absorbent, leaving no greasy film on the skin after use. It flows on smoothly and leaves the skin supple with a satin-like finish. Shea Butter contains antioxidant vitamins A and E, as well as catechins, plant antioxidants also found in green tea, and cinnamic acid esters which have been shown to provide a protective effect for the skin. Additionally there are various fatty acids and plant sterols, which nourish and protect the skin.
