Built in June 1953, this is one of 100 odd-numbered cars in series 67201-67399. A few of these hard working cars survived into the 1980s. Many cars from this series were used for wood products and operated between paper mills in Wisconsin. Soo Line Road Number SOO LINE 67267 This heavyweight depressed-center flat car with covered military load is painted Navy gray with black stenciling. It was serviced in March 1985 and runs on black Buckeye trucks. In the mid-1970s, the Department of Defense acquired 23 depressed-center flat cars and renumbered them into series 39810-39832. These cars are equipped with a permanently applied container and framework as an enclosure for the freight. It was built in July 1980 and serviced in June 1994. It runs on black roller bearing trucks. 223939 is part of a group of 100 50’ box cars built in 1980 and numbered into series 223900- 223999. Burlington Northern Road Number BN 223939 #030 00 200...$20.95 This dark blue 60’ 8” Thrall® centerbeam flat car has white lettering and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Built by Thrall® Manufacturing Co., this series has been spotted on the rails primarily in the western U.S., but a few have made it deep into the Midwest and even as far east as Virginia. By the early 1980s almost all lumber was moving on bulkhead flatcars. However, lumber producers prefer the centerbeam flat cars over all other lumber- hauling cars because of their ease of loading and the amount of lumber that can be loaded on one car. This box car red 40’ drop bottom gondola has large white “SOO LINE” lettering with white stenciling and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Built in June 1953, this is one of 100 odd-numbered cars in series 67201-67399. A few of these hard working cars survived into the 1980s. This 50’ flat car with fishbelly sides and side mount brakewheel carries a concrete beam load. It’s painted box car red with white lettering and Rio Grande speed lettering. It was built in March 1956 by American Car & Foundry and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This car is one of a 100-car roster of class FM flat cars built for the D&RGW. It is an example of the general purpose flat car with simple deck and a minimal amount of load securing equipment.

This 33’ twin bay hopper with offset sides is painted black with the red, white and black herald Anthracite herald and white lettering. It runs in Bettendorf trucks. This car built by Bethlehem Steel Company in Johnstown, PA in January of 1955. The Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Co. formed in 1842 to haul anthracite to Philadelphia. It became the Reading Co. in 1924 and remained primarily a coal hauler until its takeover by Conrail in 1976.

This 30’ flat car is painted box car red with white lettering. It was built in the early 1900s, serviced in March 1960 and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Originally built for the Colorado and Southern as stock cars, these cars were stripped down to their decks and used as flat cars on the White Pass & Yukon. Since the WP&Y did not interchange with any other railroads, there was no need for elaborate lettering schemes on its rolling stock.

Each of these GP9 locomotives is painted black with a wide orange band and large white road number with red, white and black ‘Milwaukee Road’ logo on the cab side. They wear the third paint scheme applied to them during their lives on the Milwaukee Road. An EMD GP9 (also known as a “Dash 9” for short) is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1954 and August 1963. 3,436 examples of this locomotive model were built for American railroads.

These 60’ bulkhead flat cars are painted CP Action Red with white lettering, and roll on black roller bearing trucks. Built in November 1973 by Marine Industries, these class FB 61’ 8” bulkhead flat cars are part of a 200-car fleet. The reporting mark ‘CPI’ indicates these cars are restricted to international service only and are not to be loaded for domestic points. The cars were leased from North American Car Company by CP Rail.

These 50’ box cars with double Youngstown doors are painted box car red with large New York Central “Early Bird” logo and black lettering. They were built in April 1957 by Despatch Shops, Inc., and run on Bettendorf trucks. These cars were part of a group of 1900 XM class box cars numbered into road series 45000-46899. They’re stenciled in the “New York Central – Early Bird Fast Freight Service” scheme.
