    MMA Global Committee Overview

Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) committees are the best means to get involved in the Mobile Marketing Association and contribute to building a professional and sustainable mobile marketing industry for us all. Each Committee is chaired by your fellow members and comprised of member companies. Each member company is permitted to have one representative per committee, as desired. The key to a committee's success is the action orientation and collaboration of our membership to achieve deliverables which help shape our industry. The MMA Members Only site contains additional information on each of the committees and deliverables that each is pursuing -- as well as details on upcoming committee meetings and conference calls. Below is a current list of active committees and working groups: Academic Outreach Committee The Academic Outreach Committee is chartered with establishing a bridge between industry and academia. Scholars will provide industry participants with meaningful insights from theory and research, while industry participants will provide scholars with real-world experience and data. The committee will encourage an environment for the sharing of meaningful theory, methods and data to foster the growth of the industry. The committee is also responsible for production of the International Journal of Mobile Marketing. Consumer Best Practices Committee The Consumer Best Practices Committee leads the development of a cross-carrier code of conduct that adequately balances consumer/subscriber protection with the revenue opportunities available via the Premium SMS channel. The Committee will provide objective measure of acceptable/not acceptable practices for content providers/aggregators to follow. With the rapidly growing number of common short codes being implemented across the United States, there is a need for a monitoring and reporting function in the industry to ensure that the active short code campaigns remain in compliance with the best practices as set forth by the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA). The MMA Best Consumer Practices are designed to provide continuity of a positive user experience and accountable third party content offering across carriers in a self regulated environment.

Sub-committees have been created to contribute to key topics within the Consumer Best Practices Guidelines:

The Participation TV Sub-Committee works to establish a set of guidelines for all companies that provide services for the distinctive needs of the interactive/participation TV sector. The guidelines will protect the long term viability of the industry by setting standards across all key parts of the iTV supply chain. These standards will provide the best consumer experience and ensure public trust in the systems is upheld. They will also learn from other markets which are more mature in the interactive/Participation TV field and apply to the learning and practical implications in the US. The special committee will address the distinctive concerns that interactive/participation TV creates. Examples of such concerns are spiky traffic, lessened margin of error due to nature of live TV, and how applications are promoted. The Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Sub-Committee charter is to develop best practices, policies, guidelines and standards for the use of IVR technologies in the mobile marketplace. The goal of the committee will be to inform and encourage carriers, media, brands, service and content providers to offer IVR and Premium IVR services and to provide IVR access to existing services and content. The Marketing to Children Sub-Committee within the MMA will be focused on establishing a set of guidelines, within Consumer Best Practices, for all companies that provide services for the distinctive needs of the children. The sub-committee will also create a list of key issues as well as an action plan to how to address. The Mobile Promotions & Sweepstakes Sub-Committee will develop a guidelines document that will serve to assist promotional marketers seeking to extend their promotional programs to the mobile channel. The document will include the types of mobile promotions currently being executed and common mechanics of each. The Mobile Web Sub-Committee will provide strategic direction and tactical input to the Consumer Best Practices Guidelines for mobile web/WAP services. The sub-committee will also focus on evangelizing mobile web opportunities for marketers and raising the profile and promoting mobile web/WAP services to consumers. Content Leadership Steering Committee The Content Leadership Steering Committee will work with the MMA leadership to define new current and future content initiatives and focus areas for the industry and the MMA, and thereby actively shape the industry and help define the industry framework. Education Committee The Education Committees charter is to develop a tool kit to educate and evangelize on the role of mobile in a cross media mobile marketing and advertising campaign. The Committee works closely with MMA Staff to ensure effective outreach to brands, advertisers and agencies world-wide. Measurement Committee The Measurement Committees charter is to provide global leadership in the following areas: (1) Advertising Currency Definition & Quantification, (2) Mobile success definition as part of cross media marketing mix, and (3) White Paper/Education on importance of measurement to brand marketer engagement of mobile channel.

Metrics Committee The Metrics Committee is initially focused on developing a Metrics Study/Report (Mobile Marketing Attitude & Usage Study) which will establish a baseline for future metrics initiatives. The mission of the Metrics Committee is to develop a recommended set of guidelines to measure the effectiveness of mobile marketing programs. Mobile Advertising Committee The Mobile Advertising Committee is chartered with establishing a library of format and policy guidelines for advertising within content on mobile devices (Mobile Web, Java, Gaming, Music Applications etc.). The Committee will create the framework for operators, content providers, agencies, brands and vendors to adopt as industry approved standards. Sub-committees within the mobile advertising committee include: display, messaging and mobile video & television. Mobile Commerce Committee The Mobile Commerce Committee is chartered with developing best practices and guidelines in regards to mobile commerce initiatives. The ultimate goal of the committee is to, eventually, enable a simple, consistent and compatible consumer experiences across all carriers. The committee will establish balanced guidelines that encourage brand, retail and media adoption to drive consumption. The committee will also work to establish a consortium with the carriers to provide fair mobile commerce with high quality controls for all players in the ecosystem. Sub-committees within the Mobile Commerce Committee include: Mobile Banking and Mobile Couponing. Mobile Communities & User Generated Content Committee The Mobile Communities & User Generated Content Committee has the opportunity to contribute to the Mobile Communities Market Development by exploring, commenting on and developing Guidelines and Best Practices. Key issues to be considered and addressed include: reactions to legislation, content monitoring, location-based services, age verification, and digital rights management.

Mobile Program Mark Task Force The charter of the Mobile Program Mark Task Force for a mobile content industry logo is to create a consumer-facing symbol to protect the consumers interests and promote a healthy industry. The symbol/logo will indicate to the consumer at-a-glance that an advertisement is for a mobile campaign.

Mobile Search Committee The Mobile Search Committee is designed to establish guidelines for a search marketing ecosystem. The Mobile Search Committee will help operators maximize value as well as provide an efficient search ecosystem for advertisers and content providers in the mobile space. Privacy Committee The Privacy Committee works to codify a set of best practice standards around wireless consumer privacy and develop those standards into a certification program, in conjunction with CTIA. The committee's initial step will be to harmonize existing standards so that MMA members that choose to demonstrate their adherence to consumer privacy best practices will have the opportunity to do so. Proximity Committee The Proximity Committee will establish guidelines around proximity services to ensure a consistent and positive consumer experience that will make proximity services a viable communications channel for brands and media owners. The scope of proximity currently includes bluetooth, NFC, WiFi and location services. Urban Special Interest Group The Urban Special Interest Group (USIG) will foster urban and mobile ecosystem collaboration through networking, education and policy. As a centralized forum, the USIG will facilitate mobile adoption for urban content owners, mobile service providers, technologists, vendors and strategic partners to help enable urban business synergies and development in the mobile market. Women in Wireless Committee The Women in Wireless committee will establish a forum for female industry leaders in the mobile media community and to increase the industry awareness around the success of female executives in our industry. Committee members must be director level and above and employed at an MMA member company. They must also be active in the mobile media industry.

MMA Internal Committees Audit Committee The Audit Committee is responsible for providing oversight on the association financials. The Audit Committee reviews and approves the Association financial results, annually, as prepared by the Associations accounting firm. The Audit Committee is chaired by the MMA Treasurer and convenes as required. Awards Selection Committee The Awards Selection Committee provides leadership, review and selection for the MMA Annual Awards Program. The Awards Selection Committee will also assist in the definition of program for the 2007 program. The Awards Selection Committee is chaired by Laura Marriott, Mobile Marketing Association.
