    1. Introduction. The purpose of this third and final volume of the ARMdocumentation is to present and explain an initial ARM data base for astandard European heavy division. This volume covers the various elements ofthe data base in the order: demand files, distance files, ASP/ATP data, unitdata, truck data, ammio data, and miscellaneous data. Each element isdescribed by a brief overview, explanations and examples of the elementprintouts, a presentation of the numerical values which have been entered intothat element, and the sources from which those values were derived. Wheremultiple sources are listed, they should not be thought of as independent.All were required to fulfill the data need. They are listed in order ofimportance. The key for data sources is in chapter 11. ARM codes and tablesare listed in Chapter 10.

    2. Demand Files.

    a. Overview. In the running of each CI ARM processes a demand file.This file is encountered in Volume 1, Chapter 6 as the LOG(N) file. The datait contains may come from the output of a war game or, when running in the ARMstand-alone mode, may be generated in any way necessary to reflect aparticular scenario. All ARM requires is data in the format it expects.

    b. Printouts and Explanations. Listing 1 is the demand fi.e printout forthe 75 ARM-units through 15 CIs or 3 days of simulated combat. In theleft-hand column of the printout are the 75 unit names. Associated with eachunit is a data matrix with 5 columns and 6 rows. The columns are, in order:ammno type, number of weapons alive, number of weapons short of ammo, number ofattack helicopters per cell (number of helicopters sent out per flight) andtotal demand (rounds shot). The last row is not used unless there are

    * heli-p~ters associated with the unit. The unit names are those used in the* war game or scenario. The source for the ammio codes is the ammo code table of

    Chapter 10. The number of weapons alive is initially set by the gamer inaccordance with the scenario and is thereafter updated through war game or

    * scenario output. The number of weapons short of aimmo is initialized to zeroand then set by war game or scenario output. The demand is based upon arandom draw from a demand window provided by the TRADOC combat arms schools.This window consists of two values, a high and low number of rounds expendedfor a particular C1. The number drawn is then modified to reflect such thingsas night or day, combat intensity, MOPP factor and visibility. The programthat accomplishes this is discussed in Volume 1, Chapter 4.

  • 3. Distance Files.

    a. Overview. In every CI a distance file is read into the IUNIT array.It is used to establish the distance from the center of mass of the batteriesor maneuver units to their servicing ASP/ATP. This is done for all units.

    b. Printouts and Explanations. Listing 2 is the distance file printouLfor units 1-75 and CIs 1-15. The final distances were established by actuallymeasuring them on a map, taking the shortest distance modified by judicioususe of the existing road network. The initial straight line distances weresupplied by the MMCS. The between CI distances should be modified, ifnecessary, according to the specific scenario employed. Procedures for doingso can be found in Volume I, Chapter 5.

    1a. Overview. As the ARM data base drives the ARM model, the ASP/ATPdata, comprising as it does the greatest number of different user interactivearrays, holds a prominent position within that data base. The arrays are:IASP, IAMLVL, ISERV, IATP, IATPSD, and IATPSP. This is the order in whichthey will be presented. What they detail, already spelled out in Volume 1,will again become apparent in this presentation. The user is referred toVolume I for more lengthy explanation.

The IAMLVL array printout is shown on Listing 4.It is essentially a three column printout with the ammo code in the firstcolumn, the number of rounds of that ammo to be maintained at each ATP incolumn two, and the number of rounds of that ammo to be maintained at each ASPin column three.     a. Overview. The main ARM truck data arrays are ITRUCK and ITYPE. TheITRUCK array is the largest within arm and is concerned with the individualvehicles played. These include trucks, cranes, and forklifts. ITYPE, on theother hand, describes characteristics common to the different types ofvehicles simulated. Also included in this chapter is a printout of the truckqueues at the start of the game.
