Greetings!

Welcome to The Milwaukee Theatre, and to Titanic: The Musical, the opening presentation in our 2012-13 season of great shows.

Titanic: The Musical won every Tony® Award for which it was nominated when the production was presented on Broadway in 1997. Those included Best Musical as well as individual Tony® Awards given to Peter Stone for Best Book (Musical), Jonathan Turick for Best Orchestration, Maury Yeston for Best Original Musical Score, and Stewart Lang for Best Scenic Designer.

The story of the Titanic has continuing resonance far beyond the number of lives lost when it sank on April 15, 1912, or the fact that it was on its first voyage across the Atlantic. It also marked the end of an era when human technology seemed capable of conquering nature, and vast wealth seemed capable of conquering human mortality. It sank almost on the eve of World War I, which drowned romantic illusions of battle and glory in the ghastly carnage of 20th century trench warfare, and foreshadowed even greater horrors to come. And it sank entirely out of sight to the bottom of the sea, lost forever at unfathomable depths – at least until it was rediscovered by oceanographer Robert Ballard and his team in the 1990s.

This particular touring production comes with major updates and enhancements to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s tragic maiden voyage. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to see the collection of original Titanic artifacts that are travelling with the show.

I want you to be the first to know about the next Broadway production we are announcing, which comes from a very different and very 21st-century sensibility. It is American Idiot, based on the music of Green Day, which we are bringing in for three performances on April 12 & 13, 2013. Tickets to American Idiot will go on sale Friday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. At the same time, we are close to finalizing negotiations for Marvin Hamlisch’s timeless classic, A Chorus Line, and hope to make an announcement soon!

We also have a number of independent presentations coming up, including Natalie Merchant and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, October 27; So You Think You Can Dance Live, November 2; R. Kelly, November 10; Disney Live: Mickey’s Music Festival, November 18; Mannheim Steamroller, November 25; Martina McBride, December 1; Kevin Hart, December 15; Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy, February 14; Shen Yun Performing Arts, February 19 &20; Celtic Woman, April 14; and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, June 17.

Hubris: extreme pride or arrogance; a belief to be above the fates; the pride that comes before the fall.

“ ... as the smart ship grew in stature, grace and hue, in shadowy silent distance grew the Iceberg, too.” The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy, 1912

The tragic sinking of the R.M.S Titanic on April 15, I912 was and remains to be one of the greatest of all disasters in Western history. News of the sinking shattered the confidence and the faith of an age. The tragedy marked the end of an era; it was the swift and sudden death of a dearly-held dream of man’s supremacy over nature. The events leading up to that fateful night make up a haunting story of “If Only” .. If only there had been enough life boats .... If only the bulkheads had been designed higher….if only rescue had come sooner….If only one of these had been true, many more lives would have been saved. The Tale of the “Unsinkable Ship” is a story of pride and a universal lesson of man’s fallibility.

Our tale begins in a place of reverence and remembrance as the Souls of the Passengers and Crew of the “Ship of Dreams” stand in wait to share with us their memories…their dreams…their regrets…in hopes of giving us a better tomorrow. As we re-live Titanic’s first, and last, fateful voyage the broken remains of the ship stand as our backdrop. May we take to heart these lessons from the souls lost so that we might remember and be made wiser by the mistakes of our past.

His fondest performance memories include the Opening Ceremony of the New Jersey Garden State Games, “Children’s Fairy Tale Theater” on NJ Public Radio, performing “Messiah Refreshed” at Lincoln Center and lead roles in local theatrical performances of “Hair”, (Berger), “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, (Joseph), ”GodSpell”, (Judas), and “Tommy”, (Minister). David resides in Toms River, NJ, where he gives private vocal and music theory lessons and is active performing in local church services and celebrations.

John E. Elliott (Frederick Barrett, Stoker) has been involved in theatre for over fifteen years as an actor, director, and music director. Recently John originated the role of “Erasmus Shue” in the world premiere production of Greenbrier Ghost at the Spirit of Broadway Theater. Other favorite credits include “Duke” in The Great American Trailer Park Musical (2010 Spirit Award Nominee), “Roy Rogers/Carlos Gardel” in Once Upon a Time in Atlantic City, “Tony” in West Side Story, “Starbuck” in 110 in the Shade, and “Nicely, Nicely Johnson” in Guys and Dolls. Dale W. Given (Captain E. J. Smith) Dale is excited to touring with TITANIC. An Ohio native, Dale most recently spent the summer at Ocean Professional Theatre Company doing 4 shows, including RING OF FIRE and TITANIC. Earlier this year he played Captain E. J. Smith in “Titanic” at LaComedia Dinner Theatre in Ohio. Over the past several years you may have caught Mr. Given portraying several “iconic” characters in Dollywood, TN during their Christmas season, or in the summer as “Buffalo Dale” the host of the “Medora Musical” in Medora, North Dakota. Last year he toured nationally as Pastor Gunderson

Jacqueline Whelan Heron (Ida Straus; Company Manager) was born in Ireland. She attended Municipal College of Music in Dublin, received a Teaching Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music, and studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where she completed a Postgraduate Course in Advanced Singing. Favourite performances include: Cabaret, Bye Bye Birdie, The Whitehorse Inn, A Little Night Music, Oklahoma, The Gondoliers, Showboat, Fiddler On The Roof and The Music Man. Jacqueline has toured Europe, Asia and North America as a soprano with “The Three Irish Tenors”.

Brittany Jeffery (Kate McGowan) just finished spending the summer performing at the Jersey Shore. She has been spending the summers here with her family since she was a little girl. Before that she just finished a contract at Cohoes Music Hall playing a member of the tribe in HAIR. She is absolutely thrilled to be playing Kate McGowan in TITANIC on tour. Andrew Ryan Rix (John B. Thayer) is a recent graduate of the Boston Conservatory where he received a Bachelors of Music with a concentration on Classical Voice Performance. He performed in various operatic roles and scene programs throughout his undergraduate career, and has recently begun making his transition into the musical theatre realm of performance. Roles studied include: Don Giovanni, The Pilot from “The Little Prince,” and Bob from “The Old Maid and the Thief.” Since moving to New York City, Mr. Rix has performed in various cabaret-style performances, and off-Broadway workshops. Ashlie Roberson (Caroline Neville, Ms. Damico) could not be more thrilled to be in this company! Becky Malkemes(Production Stage Manager)- Becky is thrilled to be working on this production of Titanic! She is originally from Mountain Top, PA but will soon be relocating to Indianapolis. During the school year she tours with American Family Theatre where she has served as PSM on Alice in Wonderland, Ellis Island and will be heading out with Babes in Toyland this December. She has also had the opportunity to be a part of stage management teams at New London Barn Playhouse, Surflight Theatre and Hangar Theatre. This past fall she had the amazing opportunity to serve as Production Assistant and then Head Properties on a new Broadway-bound musical Chix6. Steve Steiner (Producer and Artistic Director, Boebe Productions)More than 45 years ago his first paying job was in a rock and roll band. After many band jobs and school plays, Steve entered Webster University studying music. His degrees are in music, in Vocal Performance and Instrumental Education. This led to several years in a travelling band, during which time Steve played 11 musical instruments. He still keeps up with about half of them.Deciding to get off the road, Steve then worked for a paint manufacturing company, first as plant manager, then later in sales. During this time he worked first as an avocational actor in theatre and then professionally as both an actor and Musical Director. He also went back to school, gaining a year toward a Masters Degree in Acting. Steve headed to NY at age 30 to give Broadway a try. Over the next 16 years he was fortunate to work almost nonstop in the theatre, including 3 Broadway, 3 Off-Broadway, 2 National Tours and dozens of Regional Productions. As he began to direct the next step was an offer to become the Artistic Director of Surflight Theatre, at the time a semi-professional Summer Stock Theatre on Long Beach Island.During Steve’s tenure, Surflight’s

professional profile grew exponentially. Achieving an unprecedented attendance increase averaging over 10% per year for 12 seasons, MainStage attendance increased more that 130%, Children’s Theatre increased more than 35%, a concert series was created, a Touring Educational Theatre Company was created, a school was formed and the Intern/Apprentice program was revitalized to become one of the most sought after programs for theatre students on the east coat. Following a dispute with Surflight’s Board of Directors over the future of the theatre, Steve formed Ocean Professional Theatre Company which is now completing its first full season while planning the second.In 1993 Boebe Productions was formed with Gail Anderson. Concurrent with his other theatrical endeavors Boebe produced Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, in Atlantic City, NJ, in Reno, NV and a West Coast Tour from 1994 through 2011.In addition to his work in the theatre, Steve is a board member of The South Jersey Cultural Alliance (President), The New Jersey Theatre Alliance, ArtPride New Jersey and Ocean County Tourism (Former Chair). He was part of the County Arts Planning Task Force and served 10 years on the Council (Board) of Actors Equity Association. Steve has been honored many times with the Governor’s Excellence in Tourism Award, and is the proud recipient of The Cultural Access Task Force’s Innovator Award for his forward thinking and hiring practices for Artists with Disabilities.

Boebe also provides casting and production services for Jersey Shore Entertainment. Together they have worked on more than 15 productions and will collaborate on GREASE for Eldorado Casino and Resort in Reno, NV for Summer 2013.

The Wisconsin Center District (WCD) is a government body created in 1994 to fund, build and operate the Frontier Airlines Center, and own

and operate pre-existing venues now called The Milwaukee Theatre and U.S. Cellular Arena. The WCD board is appointed and it is empowered to issue

bonds and collect taxes within strict limits set by the State Legislature. WCD’s targeted sales taxes on hotel rooms, car rentals and tavern/restaurant food

& beverage repay Frontier Airlines Center project bonds and fund marketing by Visit Milwaukee; WCD operations are funded by operating revenues.
