Opinion Poll - Results & Reactions

Page 2: Mitt Romney is the preferred choice as US President of the outsourcing industry : BPO Voice Poll

“From No Outsourcing to Know Outsourcing” was an initiative from BPOVoice.com to focus on pro outsourcing issues. We intended to create awareness about how outsourcing is beneficial to all the countries and to the global economy on the whole. As a part of this campaign we conducted an opinion poll and asked many industry veterans, in their opinion, “what is the one single biggest reason why outsourcing shouldn’t be opposed?” In total 341 people participated in this online poll. Most of the respondents were from the age group 30-40, majority of them were from Asia specially from the middle management. Below are the results from this opinion poll along with the reactions.

Who is a Better Bet for the Outsourcing Industry?

Majority of the respondents, 54% voted for Mitt Romney. Mitt has often been accused by Obama as being someone who is outsourcing friendly. However, we in the outsourcing business see him as someone who understands global economy better. Analysts have always pointed out that Barack Obama in his bid to win presidential elections has always raised the anti outsourcing pitch.

Who is more capable of handling American economy better?

44% choose Mitt Romney whereas only 26% voted for Barack Obama. A sizable 18% said none of them whereas 12% were indecisive. American economy is in dire strait. Both the incumbents do not develop enough confidence among the masses for the revival of trillion dollar economy.

Is Obama's Attack on Outsourcing Hypocritical?

An overwhelming 88% said yes. Majority feel the rhetoric is hypocritical in nature as even Obama knows that outsourcing is important for the revival of the very economy he is concerned about. His rhetoric were mainly directed towards voters appeasement rather than policy making.

Do you think this year’s US elections are centered around distorted facts about outsourcing?

Again and overwhelming 79% agreed, only 11% disagreed whereas 10% remained unsure. The issue of Outsourcing took the center stage primarily because of the involvement of a rival candidate who heads an organization which outsourced some of its work. The facts were distorted, the issues was politicized, solely to corner the republican candidate.

Shouldn’t the US government create more jobs in new industries instead of harping on job losses?

This was a divided lot. Though 43% said yes, 41% agreed in principal but added its easier said than done.16% were unsure about it. The issue of job loss is an emotive one and outsourcing was used as an argument to rake the emotions. The need of the hour is that the US governments focus its energy more on ways how to create jobs rather than think about how to get the jobs back. What’s gone is because it ought to, . in this age of competitive world, a company needs to get its job done faster, cheaper and more efficient. Companies just cant afford to loose their competitive edge. Else they are doomed.

Does Outsourcing industry needs re branding considering the negative sentiment all around it? A lot has been said about

outsourcing. Nasscom too has suggested using a different term as there is now a lot of stigma attached to it. They say, business process management, many may not agree with it. However, fact of the matter is Outsourcing now has a lot of negative sentiment around it. The onus is on the industry players, either take the bull by its horns , take the initiative to highlight the benefit and take an aggressive rebranding exercise or simply change the battle field.

Conclusion• Majority of the voters voted for Mitt Romney as better bet for the outsourcing

industry• Majority of the respondents chose Romney as someone who could handle

American economy better.• An overwhelming 88% were of the opinion that Obama's Attack on Outsourcing

Hypocritical• Also a high number of respondents said that this year’s US elections are

centered around distorted facts about outsourcing.• A high number of respondents agreed that there has been a lot of negativity

around outsourcing and hence it needs re branding.• Even though most of the respondents agreed that US government should

create more jobs in new industries instead of harping on job losses, many were of the opinion it is easier said than done.

Despite of media claims that Obama will outwit Romney , the outsourcing industry would like to see Romney to be elected as US President. Obama’s anti outsourcing rhetoric have become a matter of concern however more or less they are viewed as hypocritical. The industry desires that the US government takes global economy into consideration before passing any bills which proves to be counterproductive for globalization.
