The 2016 Sprint Car season has been underway in the sunny climes of Florida and Arizona since early in the New Year but for a few Canadian competitors and race fans the action really started in February especially in the "Sunshine State". Mitch Brown left on February 13th to begin his pre-season tune-up with events at Tampa's East Bay Raceway Park - as part of the track's Winter Nationals Sprint Car events on February 18, 19 and 20th. He will be back home following those events before returning to Florida April 1st and 2nd for races at Lake City and Ocala then on to the Carolinas April 8th and 9th for United Sprint Car Series events in the Carolinas. The Brantford speedster also plans on running some NRA Sprint Invader shows at Limaland (Lima, OH) in April before the local schedule opens on home soil at Merrittville Speedway on April 23rd -the opener of the Patriot Sprint Tour's Canadian schedule. Last year the early start to the season proved beneficial in getting his local racing programs off to a fast start leading to a successful racing campaign. Although his 2016 regular racing schedule is still to be finalized, it appears he will again place much of his efforts on challenging for Ohsweken Speedway's Corr/Pak Championship - a title he was in the thick of for most of the 2015 season before mechanical issues derailed his bid. He will also be returning to the Southern Ontario Sprints scene where he captured the 2015 Championship. Over the past four seasons Mitch has run a partial Patriot Sprint Tour schedule with events on both sides of the border. Last season the veteran driver was third in the PST Canadian points standings until those mechanical issues developed. He feels that with a more disciplined approach he can again be in among the leaders battling for the Canadian title. The Canadian Series is spread among Merrittville (1), Ohsweken (1), Brockville (2) and Cornwall (2) tracks with some additional dates being assessed. There are also some PST America Series races pencilled into his drafted schedule. Following last year's first career win in an Empire Super Sprints race at Ohsweken Speedway you can be sure he'll even contest a limited number of races in that series whenever his aggressive schedule permits. ...Continued Page 2 7 Edition #1 February 2016 MITCH BROWN 2015 Southern Ontario Sprints Champion

EDITOR'S COMMENTS... Hello Again . . .and WELCOME to the first edition of our team newsletter for 2016. Although the months of December and January were surprisingly mild compared to the past two winters in this part of the hemisphere, you never know what we can expect between now and the start of the local racing season. February has already startled those of us living in Southern Ontario with a record high temperature of + 16⁰C ( 60.8F ) on February 3rd and ten days later it dropped to a frigid - 14C (6.8F) - the result of a "Polar Vortex" (translation a swath of damn cold air). Weather records have tumbled across North America, with freezing temperatures even in the southern US that are affecting nearly 190 million people. An old friend of mine phoned me the other day complaining about the weather. She indicated she and her husband had purchased an old home in Northern New York State from two elderly sisters and with winter fast approaching, she was concerned about the house's lack of insulation. "If they could live here all those years, so can we!" her husband confidently declared. One January night the temperature plunged to below zero and she and her hubby woke up to find interior walls covered with frost. Her husband called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, he hung up. "For the past 30 years," he muttered, "they've gone to Florida for the winter." Stories like that makes one wish for the warmth of a tropical island or simply a good old fashioned "hot toddy" to knock that chill out of one's bones. For more stories like the above and updated reports on Mitch and Jake Brown plus other happenings on the Sprint Car circuit see the team's website www.mitchbrownracing.com and in

subsequent issues of "Chasin' the 10s Racing" throughout the 2016 season. Until then, Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.

Jake Brown Moves to 360s in 2016 Following two seasons of competition in the Ohsweken Speedway Strickland's GMC Crate Sprint Car Division, Jake Brown is moving up to the 360 Sprint Car division in 2016 where he will be competing against his older brother for the first time since jumping into a race car seven seasons ago. His primary schedule will focus on Ohsweken Speedway's Corr/Pak Sprints with a limited number of races on the Southern Ontario Sprints circuit. Jake finished second in the Crate Sprint Car Division last year following two seasons of running in Ohsweken's Thunder Stock class. Is He Ready For the Move? "We were planning to have him run a couple of Southern Ontario Sprints events at the end of last season and perhaps test his mettle in the wrap events at Ohsweken but Mitch had some mrechanical issues that forced us to forego those plans," responded Doug Brown the team's mentor when questioned on the move. Sponsorship will be key to running the Corr/Pak Merchandising schedule at Ohsweken in 2016 but the team is forging ahead with the equipment they have on hand to build some cars for the campaign. Jake just wrapped up his Junior Hockey season on a disappointing note as his Woodstock Navy Vets lost its 2015/2016 Junior "C" first round playoff

battle against the Paris Mounties. The Navy Vets had opened the best of seven series with two fast wins only to lose the next four to the Paris squad.

Jake Brown, who finished 3rd in the 2014 season of Ohsweken Speedway's Crate Sprint Division standings and 2nd last season, will compete with his brother Mitch in the track's 360 Sprint Car Division this season.

MITCH BROWN is coming off another strong season in Sprint Car Racing with a his first Championship in the Southern Ontario Sprints, third-place in Ohsweken Speedway's Corr/Pak Merchandising Points Standings, solid performances in limited Patriot Sprint Tour events and a season high of six A-Main Feature wins -including his first in an Empire Super Sprints event at Ohsweken and his first south of the border in a NRA Sprint Invaders versus Sprints on Dirt feature at Montpelier Speedway in Indiana. Based on his plans for 2016 there are a few more wins he hopes to gain as he expands his racing programs in search of more experience.

JAKE BROWN moves to the 360 Sprint Cars in 2016 as part of his racing development. He'll be competing locally at Ohsweken Speedway along with some Southern Ontario Sprints events now that his hockey programs have been stuffed into his duffle bag. Having worked side by side with his brother since entering into his racing endeavours, Jake knows he's entering a class of racing that requires at lot of attention to the maintenance of equipment and most certainly to keeping his mind and body sharp and in shape to deal with the dynamics of this lightning fast sport. Like Mitch, Jake is passionate about his conditioning programs.
