Summer Library Reading Challenge

Over the summer holidays a number of children took part in the Space Chase reading challenge run

by Crewkerne library where children were encouraged to read 6 books over the summer holidays.

This month we welcomed Sue from the library to present those children with their certificates and

medals! There was also special recognition for both Genevieve and Korbin.

What a super afternoon of sunshine and smiles we had watching the Key Stage

One footballers. There was a mix of experience on the pitch but the children all

worked together as a team with a positive attitude. Reuben, Alfie, George and

Rupert took turns to take responsibility for being in goal and each one tried their

best to stop Hinton from scoring. William Charles demonstrated great resilience

and perseverance and came back on after a hit in the face by a goal kick.

Of the four games played Hinton scored the most goals but Ashlands and

Misterton’s heads never dropped and we had the pleasure of watching some

great goal shots with

elaborate celebration

from Reuben and Fin-

ley. Thanks to all sup-

porters who made the

boys feel amazing!

Yeovil Area Cross Country Event - Year 2, 3 & 4 Race

Two amazing races! With a few newcomers to Team MASH all nerves and butterflies were

soon quashed as the first race got underway!

Parents scrambled to the side lines of the course around the Yeovil Rugby Club grounds to

“shout it out” for Team MASH. In the distance, through the drizzle (rain without fail) it was

clear to see that the effort was immense as our purple T-shirts pulled away to close the gaps.

Results have yet to be confirmed but it is estimated that there were at least 200 girls and 200

boys in each of our races! Taking this into consideration and that some of the runners could

be up to three years older than some of our team members, an 11th place for Poppy Conroy

and a 33rd place for Lucus Dawe both in Yr3 were no mean feat! They were followed across

the finish line (in no particular order – tbc) by first time runners including Summer Cole Yr2,

Emma Astall Yr2, Samuel Tucker Yr4 and Patryk Gawrys Yr2 who all looked to our more experi-

ence runners Will Kirton yr4, Sayer Pilton Yr3, Sophie Synakova Yr3 and Chloe Willis Yr4 for

technique, determination and staying power. A tremendous effort well Done EVERYONE!

Great team spirit!

Whole School Welly Walk to the Church

Harvest Festivities

Please remember to refer to our website for details on

online safety.

As part of our ‘Environmental heroes’ topic we invited staff from Carymoor Recycling Centre to visit us. The children had a fantastic morning learning about the importance of recycling through fun and exciting activities. Oak class be-came pirates and learnt about the ‘three Rs’, Re-duce, Reuse, Recycle! Cedar class had a great time using plastic bottles to make their own greenhouses! It has been great to hear that children have been inspired at home to care for the environment, what great heroes we are!

Carymoor Visit

On the 4th October the children were able to get out in the fresh air and go on a

welly walk around the village as part of our Environmental Heroes topic. We

took photos at the church to help with the ideas for the competition and then

ventured on through the fields around the back of the school. Everyone had a

great time and loved exploring the beautiful countryside surrounding our

school!

Please can we ask all parents not to park on the

double yellow lines at the entrance to Silver Street.

Not only is this against the law but causes a risk to

the safety of the children at these busy times of

day. It also causes obstruction for traffic trying to

enter the road thus leading to problems backing up

into the village. Please allow plenty of time in the

morning to get to school and park. There is parking

available in Turnpike Green or alternatively there is

the option of parking at the

village hall and walking from

there. Thank you in advance

for your cooperation.

Forest School & Exchange Students

On the day of the Harvest Festival the children spent the morning celebrating

our church values through making hedgehog bread, creating leaf sun

catchers, scarecrows and paper pumpkins. Then after lunch we headed up to

the church for our Harvest Festival where the children sang and displayed

their pumpkins with words of what they were thankful for.

On Friday 11th October we were very privileged to share a visit at Ashlands

from the Maiden Beech Academy, TVS Indian exchange students. They did a

short presentation for the Key Stage 2 children from both schools in collective

worship, including songs sung in their traditional language and showing a video

of their school environment. The children also shared one of their harvest

songs with the TVS students and staff. After collective worship the TVS

students, their teachers and staff from Maiden Beech joined Cedar class and

some representatives from Beech Class in a forest school session. All the chil-

dren worked collaboratively to make seed bombs, then enjoyed a selection of

free choice activities, including cooking bread sticks over the fire, toasting

marshmallows, using flint and steels, trying out a strapline and swinging on a

rope swing. It was a fantastic morning thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

We were very excited this month to receive a delivery of brand new science equipment! Thank you to Mrs Carter who applied for a

grant from the National Grid which has enabled us to purchase a range of items. One of the most exciting arrivals is a pack of 5 data

loggers and temperature sensors. These use Bluetooth technology to send data to our iPads and, although purchased for use by our Key

Stage 2 children, can easily be accessed by the Key Stage 1 children as well.

We were very excited to receive a visit from Sam from the Crewkerne branch of the Royal

British Legion. However Sam did not come alone, much to the children’s enjoyment he was

accompanied by a lion! The visit was in aid of promoting their competition to name their lion

mascot. The children all had a chance to enter the competition and the Legion Committee will

choose a suitable name and there will be a

prize of a £10 book voucher. This prize will be

presented at the Poppy Launch in the town

square in Crewkerne Saturday 26th October

2019.

Good luck all!

Miss Ball’s Proud Wall Congratulations to all the children who have made it on to my

proud wall this month!

George was extremely kind

teaching Presley how to do his shoe

laces. It was lovely to see how

patient he was being helping a

friend. #Friendship #Compassion

Gary from Carymoor was so impressed with

Summer’s thinking of how, if we reduced our

waste, it would also reduce the fuel used by

lorries carrying the waste. No child has ever

thought of that before! #aspiration #respect

We are all super proud of Holly who

achieved her Aqua Bears Certificate for

‘Confidence in the Water’. This is such an

important skill to have and will help to keep

Holly safe at all times, as well as helping her

to look after others in the water.

#aspiration #compassion #respect

Shania impressed me with her

superb story planning. Shania

brought the story to life with her

excitement and positivity! I can’t

wait to read the finished written

version. Thank you for making me

so proud! #aspiration

Genevieve impressed me with her

comprehension skills. She looked carefully

for the answers in the text and didn’t give

up even when the answer was at the

bottom of the page of writing! Well done

young lady. #aspiration #perseverance

Seren made me very proud with

her attitude to learning in Maths.

Since the start of term she has

grown in confidence and is really

shining! Keep this up young lady it

is wonderful to see!

#aspiration #perseverance

Following our visit from Carymoor,

Reuben was inspired and has decided to

clean the streets of Misterton of any

litter. Every Wednesday morning on his

way to school he picks up rubbish he

sees along the pavements. Well done

Reuben, the world needs people like

you. #aspiration #compassion #respect

Cross Country Races

After Half Term we are going to start a Weekly Class Attendance Award. The winner will be announced in our Praise and Celebration

assembly each week. The winning Class will have a ten minute biscuit break with Mrs Goodison in the Library and the class photo will

also go up on the wall outside the School Office. Please could you let Mrs Goodison know which biscuits are your favourites! Or if your

child has any food allergies which biscuits or snacks we could get.

Our whole school attendance this month stands at 97.4%. The table below shows attendance for October and how it is broken down.

Weekly Class Attendance Award

There was a super 'buzz' of excitement in the air at the first race

of the Cross Country season. The children were enthusiastic and

eager to do their best alongside children from many other

schools. There were 505 children who crossed the finish line

altogether, representing 25 schools. This is an amazing number

and we are thankful to Adam and his team of organisers from

Yeovil Town RRC who make this possible every year!

As a school we are proud of every runner for simply being at the

race and having a go. Our girls came 12th out of 23 schools and

the boys came 11th out of 23 schools - what a great

result. Well done to all our young

runners.

Miss Ball

Cross Country Race 2 saw the

first event to be held at

Ninesprings. The children faced

an uphill challenge from the very

start and reported back that it

was an up and downhill

adventure. Well done to all who

participated!

Key Stage 2

On Wednesday 9th October the Misterton and Ashland’s

children represented the school in a friendly football match

against Hinton St George. The team played very well wining

11-0. I was very impressed with children’s attitude and

teamwork on the pitch. Well done boys!
