The great magnolia shoots up its majestic trunk, crowned with evergreen leaves, and decorated with a thousand
beautiful flowers, that perfume the air around where the forests and fields are adorned with blossoms of every hue;
where the golden orange ornaments the gardens and groves; where bignonias of various kinds interlace their climbing stems around the white-flowered stuartia, and mounting still higher, cover the summits of the lofty trees around, accompanied with innumerable vines, that here and there festoon the dense foliage of the magnificent woods

ClimateClimate
Mississippi is located in the humid subtropical climate region, characterized by temperate winters long, hot summers; and rainfall that is fairly evenly distributed
through the year
However, the state is subject to periods of both drought and floodT
The climate rarely seems to bring "average" conditions More typical would be an expection of "feast or famine" with
regard to weather events as the climate delivers energy and moisture in subtropical latitudes between a large landmass to the north and the Gulf of Mexico to the south
