of love” and the Almond Tree blossomed.

Is it really the end of summer? We had a really nice season and enjoyed welcoming visitors to our fair city. We hope you all enjoyed your travels and brought home wonderful memories. Now it is back to school and a quiet time for us. We enjoy the respite and assess our needs for the coming season. We had a great group of people working this summer. I so appreciate all that they did to support me while I was not well. It is a so nice to have the confidence to know that everything was being taken care of. If you haven’t been in to see us this is a nice time to visit. Come in and browse – share a little fellowship – listen to the music. If you are looking for a special gift we still have many lovely options. We are here 7 days a week from 9-5PM.

Gospel SummaryIn today’s Gospel, Jesus’ followers reach a point on the journey where it is time to make a decision. Do they believe in Jesus and in what he has said? Should they continue to follow him? Or is it time to walk away and to return to their former way of living? Many are unable to accept Jesus’ words and choose to no longer accompany him. When Jesus asks the Twelve if they also want to leave, Peter answers, “Master, to whom shall we go?”Refl ection for ParentsImagine that you are with the Twelve and the other followers of Jesus today. Where do you find yourself on the road? Do you believe in Jesus and in his Word? Do you choose to follow him? Or are there points on the road where you slip into a former way of living—into old habits, behaviors, and attitudes that are not becoming of a disciple of Christ? Take some quiet time to think about your level of discipleship. Is it whole-hearted, half-hearted, or barely evident to your family and to others? Commit yourself today to continuing to follow

the Master, the Holy One of God.Bringing the Good News Into Your FamilyHelp each family member trace his or her footprint onto a piece of construction paper. Cut out the footprints. Have each family member write his or her name on one side of the footprint. Then pass the footprints around and ask other family members to write down ways they see the footprint owner following Jesus. Adults and older children can help younger children do this too. After everyone has contributed to each family member’s footprint, invite family members to read what has been written on their footprints. Pray that those in your family will always be faithful followers of Jesus.Discussion StartersA time when it was hard for me to

follow Jesus was when . . .I want to follow Jesus because . . .One way our family can follow Jesus

Pope Francis says the death penalty is inadmissible “Recourse to the death penalty on the part of legitimate authority, following a fair trial, was long considered an appropriate response to the gravity of certain crimes and an acceptable, albeit extreme, means of safeguarding the common good.“Today, however, there is an increasing awareness that the dignity of the person is not lost even after the commission of very serious crimes. In addition, a new understanding has emerged of the significance of penal sanctions imposed by the state. Lastly, more effective systems of detention have been developed, which ensure the due protection of citizens but, at the same time, do not definitively deprive the guilty of the possibility of redemption.Consequently, the church teaches, in the light of the Gospel, that ‘the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person,’ and she works with determination for its abolition worldwide.”

-- Catechism of the Catholic Church

In addition to calling for an end to capital punishment, Pope Francis called on the faithful to work for the improvement of prison conditions “so that they fully respect the human dignity of those incarcerated.”If you want to learn more or be involved:Death Penalty Focus https://deathpenalty.org/Restorative Partners SLO www.restorativepartners.org

darse amor y reverencia mutua (Efesios 5:21-32 [2a, 25-32]).

(Juan 6:60-69)
