(Open to the Public) Monday, August 5, 2013 - 5:00 p.m.

The Baker County School Board met on Monday, August 5, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. in the District School Board Room located at 270 South Boulevard East, Macclenny, Florida. The purpose of the meeting was to hold the regular open Board meeting.

Chairperson Griffis announced that Johnnie Jacobs, Director of Transportation, was giving the invocation. He stated that David Davis, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, would lead the Pledge of Allegiance after the invocation.

CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Griffis called the open Board meeting to order and asked for a roll call of

members. The following School Board Members were present to wit: Chairperson Richard “Dean”

Griffis, Vice-Chairperson Patricia C. Weeks, Charlie M. Burnett, III (Artie), and Earl “Dwight”

Crews. School Board Member Jesse D. Davis was not present at the meeting. Superintendent Raulerson

stated that Mr. Jesse Davis asked her to convey to that he would appreciate the Board’s patience with

his absence from the meetings until he could resign. Superintendent Sherrie Raulerson and School

Board Attorney Jonathan Oliff were both in attendance at the meeting.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

There were no public hearings held at this meeting.

RECOGNITIONS

There were no recognitions at this meeting.

APPROVAL TO CORRECT AND/OR ADD ITEMS TO THE FINAL AGENDA

Change A.1. – Personnel Items – Extra Duty – Jennifer King (New Teacher Training)

– Change Pay Rate from $23.13 to $14.60 which is the Non-Instructional Step ‘0’ Pay

Rate. (She is a Child Development Associate Teacher)

Chairperson Griffis read the above noted correction to the agenda and entertained a motion

from the Board on this agenda item. As recommended by the Superintendent, Artie Burnett made a

motion to make the correction to the agenda, seconded by Dwight Crews. The motion carried 4-0.

However, later in the meeting Robin Mobley, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources,



brought it to the attention of the Board that the correction was not correct due to past precedence of the

Child Development Associate receiving the $23.13 per hour for the New Teacher Training only. The

Chairperson then entertained a motion to amend the Board action and return to the original agenda

without the correction. As recommended, Artie Burnett made a motion to return to the original agenda,

seconded by Patricia Weeks. The motion carried 4-0.

CITIZEN INPUT

No individual in the audience addressed the School Board with citizen concerns at this meeting.

REMOVAL OF ROUTINE ITEMS

Chairperson Griffis asked if any Board Member wished to remove a routine item for separate

consideration.

Chairperson Griffis entertained a motion from the Board on the routine items. As

recommended by the Superintendent, Patricia Weeks made a motion to approve all routine

items (A.1. – A.4.), seconded by Dwight Crews. The motion carried 4-0.

After Robin Mobley expressed that the correction to the agenda was in error.

Chairperson Griffis entertained a motion from the Board action and to return Jennifer

King’s pay rate on extra duty ‘New Teacher Training’ to $23.13 as was listed on the

original agenda. As recommended, Patricia Weeks made the motion as stated, seconded by

Dwight Crews. The motion carried 4-0.



B. Approval of the Removed Routine Items. n/a

There were no removed routine items. Therefore, no action was taken on this

agenda item.

C. Approval of the Baker County Transportation Department's

2013-2014 Bus Routes.

INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Superintendent Raulerson announced Dean Griffis and Gail Griffis shared today as their 61st

birthday. She also stated how wonderful she thought it was that they are married, share the

same birthday, were born in the same hospital on the same day and were in the nursery at

the hospital together.

Superintendent Raulerson was pleased that last week our district settled with our

instructional union.

Superintendent Raulerson discussed that our school grades were released and Keller

Intermediate received a ‘D’ and Baker County Middle School received a ‘B’ this year. We

do not have the grade for Baker County High School yet. However, she does appreciate the

efforts of Mrs. Gail Griffis and the teachers. Superintendent Raulerson reassured the Board

that she, the Educational Leaders, and teachers are committed to do everything that we can

do to improve the “School Grade” given by the state. She also publicly encouraged Keller

Intermediate School staff to continue the efforts to improve. The Educational Leaders met

earlier today and collaborated and brainstormed on ways to work together between the

schools as an effort to strive toward that goal.
