Injection of water bearing strata during tunnel driving

Isafjdur tunnel is situatedin the North West of

Iceland.

It was developed in 1995

and has a length of 9 km.

The geologic situation is characterised

by basalts and sedimentary rock.

During the planning period high water

ingress was expected.

Problem

Water pressure not allowed cement injections in spite 30 m long

drills

Solution

First with PU injection stop the water by building a 4m zone

With cement injection secure the stability
