Workshop DescriptionThis one-day event will highlight the latest practices, innovations, and research related to Minnesota’s roadway maintenance operations. The event focuses exclusively on the exchange of education and technology through classroom sessions and outdoor demonstrations.
Topics Covered• CDL/Load Securement
Learn about new requirements for government CDL drivers and new ways to properly inspect securement devices and secure cargo according to regulation requirements. Participate in hands-on demonstrations for cargo securement procedures and inspection.
• Gravel Road Maintenance and Design This session will focus on blading techniques and proper equipment for maintaining a good gravel road. Learn about real-world examples, new technologies, and using the correct materials. Participate in demonstrations on proper blading techniques, safety, and much more!
• Chainsaw Maintenance and Safety Operating a chainsaw is inherently hazardous. Potential injuries can be minimized by proper personal protective equipment and safe operating procedures. This session will focus on the importance of chainsaw safety, the dangers of running a chainsaw, and proper chainsaw maintenance. Demonstrations will include PPE/assessing the situation, sharpening/gassing the saw and prep, notching/felling/roping, and body position–cutting the stump off.
• Otter Tail County Equipment Showcase View Otter Tail County’s newest equipment and learn about their best maintenance operations practices.
Roads Scholar Ceremony Graduates for the year are honored during a ceremony at this event.
Who Should Attend Maintenance operators, supervisors, and transportation and research implementation personnel from township, tribal, city, county, and state agencies who seek continuing education and knowledge-building opportunities.

Registration and FeesA $125 registration fee includes attendance at general sessions and outdoor demonstrations, instructional materials, lunch, and refreshment breaks. If you need to cancel your registration, a refund—minus $30—will be issued if you cancel by April 27, 2020. Cancelations after this date will not be eligible for a refund.
