    Fred Karnas, Jr. - Senior Advisor to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan

    In March 2009, Fred Karnas, Jr. joined the Obama Administration as Senior Adviser toShaun Donovan, Secretary o the U.S. Department o Housing and Urban Development(HUD). In this role he has provided leadership or the implementation o the AmericanRecovery and Reinvestment Act and provided guidance on an array o issues related toHUDs role in addressing poverty and homelessness.

    Fred has a 35 year history o work with low-income men, women and children in Arizo-na and across the United States. In the early 1980s, he began working on homelessness,

    directing nonprot housing and homelessness assistance programs in Phoenix and Or-lando, and chairing state homelessness and housing coalitions in Arizona and Florida.In 1991, he became the executive director o the National Coalition or the Homeless(NCH) in Washington, D.C. where he provided leadership to NCHs eorts to crat localand national strategies to address homelessness.

    In 1995, HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros named Fred the rst director o the Ofce oHIV/AIDS Housing, and in 1997, Mr. Cisneros successor, Andrew Cuomo tapped Fredto serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary or Special Needs Programs. In that role, he

    was one o the designers o HUDs Continuum o Care (CoC) policies, while overseeingHUDs $1.5 billion homelessness and HIV/AIDS programs. During his tenure at HUD,Fred also served or 5 years as the acting executive director o the Interagency Coun-

    cil on the Homeless. Ater leaving HUD at the end o the Clinton Administration, heopened a consulting practice on homelessness and AIDS housing. Later he served asSenior Director or Homelessness Initiatives at the Fannie Mae Foundation.

    Previous to joining the Obama Administration, Fred served as a policy adviser to Ari-

    zona Governor Janet Napolitano, later joining her cabinet as director o the ArizonaDepartment o Housing and Executive Director o the Arizona Housing Finance Author-ity. In this role he oversaw the Departments programs which ranged rom addressinghomelessness to creating home ownership opportunities. He was the key architect othe Housing Arizona initiative which provided $7 million dollars or targeted homeless-ness eorts. He also co-chaired Governor Napolitanos Interagency and Community

    Council on Homelessness.

    Fred has a bachelors degree in City Planning rom the University o Virginia School o

    Architecture, a Masters degree in Social Work rom Virginia Commonwealth Univer-sity, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning rom Virginia echs College oArchitecture and Urban Studies.

    George Latimer - Saint PaulGeorge Latimer was the mayor o Saint Paul, Minnesotas capital city, rom 1976 until1990. A labor lawyer by proession, Latimer was recognized or his redevelopment o St.Pauls downtown core and investments in neighborhood revitalization. Previous to be-ing mayor he was elected to the Saint Paul School Board and continues to be involved in

    the education o young people.

    Ater his mayoral term, he served as dean o Hamline Universitys law school, andserved as a special advisor to Henry Cisneros, President Clintons Housing and UrbanDevelopment Secretary, rom 1993 until 1995.

    From 1996 to January 1998, Latimer was CEO o the National Equity Fund, whichmanages 27,000 housing units in 35 cities, and provides aordable housing or workingpeople through use o the Low Income ax Credit.

    Latimer occasionally lectures on these topics at Macalester College, while continuing tonurture and mentor young politicians.

    Circus Manduhai- Erdenechimeg Haltarhuu (Chimgee), owner & perormer

    Circus Manduhai was ounded in 2002 by Erdenechimeg Chimgee Haltarhuu as a wayor her and her amily to share the Mongolian culture, continue displaying their circusskills, and to entertain the win Cities area.

    By 2005, Circus Manduhai was perorming over 50 shows per year in over 15 countiesin Minnesota and Wisconsin. Some highlights were perorming or 10 weeks at the oldCamp Snoopy at Mall o America, our shows at the Edina Art Center, and our yearlyperormance at the Chinese New Years Celebration and Reunion (or children adoptedrom China). 2006 saw Circus Manduhai perorming at Te Park at Mall o America

    and private engagements at Mystic Lake Casino. In 2007 Circus Manduhai perormedat Como Zoo and at the Fitzgerald Teater in St. Paul, MN. Te 2008 Circus Manduhaiperormed at Grand Casino with Mannequin in Motion/Osprey Productions.

    Trough Circus Juventas, Chimgee has been teaching circus skills to area youth and alsosome adults at Juventas great acilities in Higland Park, St. Paul; she brought studentsto Latina, Italy to compete in International Circus Festival.

    Susan Haigh- President, Twin Cities Habitat or Humanity (MHP Chair)

    Sue joined win Cities Habitat or Humanity in February 2005, accepting the challengeo helping the organization explore more innovative ways to manage housing develop-

    ment costs while ullling their commitment to build at least 50 homes a year or 50amilies throughout the metro area. Beore joining Habitat, she served three terms onthe Ramsey County Board o Commissioners, representing District 4 (St. Pauls Midwayand surrounding areas). During her time as Commissioner, she championed aord-able housing or working amilies, including establishing a $5 million Housing Endow-

    ment Fund in 2000. Additionally, as a church elder, Sue helped direct use o the Houseso Hope Fund, a $4 million dollar aordable housing und that had been raised by thecongregation in 2000. She also spent eleven years managing the 250-employee RamseyCounty Attorneys Ofce and its $20 million dollar budget. She holds a J. D. Degree

    rom William Mitchell College o Law, and a B.A. in Political Science rom MacalesterCollege.

    Jim Miley - President Residential Real Estate/Bremer Bank (MHP Vice Chair)

    Jim Miley has worked in the win Cities mortgage lending eld or the past 33 years.He currently is the President o Residential Real Estate or Bremer Bank, which oper-ates in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Prior to joining Bremer, Jim has heldpositions in general and sales management or US Bank Home Mortgage and MarquetteMortgage, as well as other companies throughout the metro area during his tenure inthe mortgage industry. During this time, he has worked to create home ownership op-portunities or people that have in the past been challenged in nding solutions.

    Jim was born and raised in the win Cities and is married, and the ather o our chil-dren, ages ranging rom 28 to 8. He enjoys skiing, golng, and attending a never ending

    schedule o his childrens athletic events.
