• Principals of Federal Government Unity Schools encouraged to share documented challenges with HMSE & FME

JOURNEY SO FAR• Development of an action plan on rehabilitating

and repositioning Federal Government Unity Schools to their former glory and for the purposes for which they were set up (3 Unity Schools per year in each geo-political zone)

• Budget presented, defended and approved• Workshop for Principals, Procurement Officers and

Bursars of Federal Unity Colleges to chart a way forward for a strategic, acceptable, appropriate, effective and efficient utilization of funds to ensure the best value for money

• NEXT STEP: Effective and efficient implementation of action plan, as provided for in the budget.

• Construction of boarding and day schools under the Almajiri Education Programme:

• In addition to the 32 Almajiri schools already constructed in the phase 1, Universal Basic Education Commission is constructing 60 more Almajiri schools in 16 states of the Federation

• Teacher Capacity Development programmesby NTI and UBEC

• Principals and Vice Principals Of Federal Government Colleges trained on school based management committee policies and whole school development planning

• 28,000 Head Teachers from all geo-political zones trained on how to manage and work effectively with the wider community

• 125,000 teachers trained by NTI to deepen their content knowledge and sharpen their instructional skills

• Training of 103 Junior Secondary School Principals and Head Teachers to enhance their instructional leadership skills for quality education delivery

• Training workshop on school leadership and management for Principals and Head Teachers in collaboration with Commonwealth of Learning

• Selected Science Teachers from all states of the Federation sponsored for training in Canada

• Training of Inspectors and Principals of public schools commenced; to improve instructional quality and enhance student achievement

• Development of international partnership on Technical, Vocational Education and Training with Highbury College, Portsmouth and the Portsmouth business community in the strategic delivery of TVET programmes and Entrepreneurial Education in Nigeria

• Commitment from International Development Partners such as Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) to scale up interventions in TVET and related areas

• Bilateral relationship with China resulting in the construction and handing over of an ultra model primary school in Nyayan, Abuja to basic education

• Bilateral cooperation with Korea culminating in the construction of vocational centers in Kogiand schools in Adamawa and Gombe states

• The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) providing in-service training through the Strengthen Mathematics And Science Education (SMASE) programme

• Bilateral relationship with Korea resulting in the training of Education Managers to enhance quality of school administrators at the basic level

• Bilateral cooperation with Korea culminating in the training of 60 Mathematics and other science related subject teachers at the Basic education level.

• Bilateral cooperation with Japan (JICA) resulting in the construction of a vocational center in Kaduna

• Presently about 100% of the states of the Federation have accessed UBEC funds, meant for the provision of facilities at the Basic education level, especially due to domiciliation with commercial banks
