1 GENERAL INFORMATION

This manual explains the installation, use and maintenance of the Labko® MiniPEK sand, oil and fuel trap. The traps are intended for indoor use, e.g. in boiler, auxiliary power and compressor rooms. MiniPEK traps must not be used on vehicle washing sites.

MiniPEK traps are CE-marked in accordance with the EU regulation on construction products.

1.1 Important information on the trap

These installation instructions are general instructions, which means that every installation must be designed site-specifically and separately in cooperation with the designer and the authorities. The design of the trap must observe section “D1 Water supply and drainage installations for buildings. Regulations and guidelines 2007” of the National Building Code of Finland.

In order for the system to function to the best of its ability, please read this installation, use and maintenance manual carefully and pay special attention to the following issues during installation in order to ensure occupational safety and the proper functioning of the system:

Handle the trap carefully; do not roll or drop it.

Secure the trap carefully for transport so that it is not damaged.

Inspect the trap immediately for any damage during transport once you have reached the installation site.

The trap must be subjected to regular inspections and maintenance measures in order to ensure reliable, good operation. Regular maintenance also ensures the best purifying results.

Determine the municipality’s waste management requirements for sludge management, and act accordingly.

When performing maintenance tasks on parts in contact with wastewater, you should pay attention to the proper protective equipment and hygiene.

In order to prevent accidents, covers must be kept in place at all times! It is always the responsibility of the property owner to ensure that nothing or no one can fall into the tank (children, animals, etc.)!

1.2 Handling the trap

Handle the trap carefully. You must not roll or drop the trap. Secure the trap for transport, so that it is not damaged. Inspect the trap for any damage prior to installation.

2 MINIPEK SAND, OIL AND FUEL TRAP

2.1 Operating principle

The MiniPEK trap collects water from the designated area and then leads it to further processing. The trap separates sand, oil and other solids from the water. The products must not be used on vehicle washing sites.

2.2 Structure

MiniPEK traps are floor drains made from PE plastic. The trap includes a Ø 300 cover, a separate, easily emptied sludge bucket, and a tight Fix lock® outlet fitting and an inlet fitting equipped with a drain trap. In addition, the trap has two reinforcement bar installation cogs that can be used to attach the trap to the concrete reinforcements of the floor before casting. Delivered in a protective cover bag that prevents spatter from sticking to the cover during casting. The traps can be equipped with an oil tank filling alarm.

3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Perform trap groundwork in accordance with the site designer’s instructions. Please perform the sealing carefully.

Position the trap into place onto the correct elevation measured from the upper surface of the covers, as specified in the plan.

The trap may be installed deeper than the standard depth, if necessary. Cut the trap according to the image (saw between the lines), add the smooth D315 pipe as an elevation piece, and add mass sealer to the top and bottom ends.

Next, open the inlet fitting if it is to be used.

After positioning, support the trap so that it stays in place during casting.

Continue the groundwork on site in accordance with the site designer’s instructions, including the installation of HVAC pipes, soil densification, sealing and concrete reinforcement.

4 MAINTENANCE

MiniPEK traps must be subjected to regular inspections and maintenance measures in order to ensure reliable and good operation. Regular maintenance also ensures the best purifying results. It is recommended that inspections, emptying and other measures are logged into a maintenance journal, along with all maintenance operations and fault situations as well as operations during fault situations. A maintenance journal template is given in section 6. Use and maintenance instructions must be stored on the premises and presented to the authorities upon request. The property owner may perform the inspections themselves.

4.1 Separator

Monitor the sludge and oil level in the trap. The sludge must be removed when necessary, and we recommend that this be done at least twice a year. Regular emptying at sufficiently short intervals prevents sand from entering the sewage pipes and diminishes any unpleasant odours.

The surface layer accumulating on the trap is hazardous waste. It must be transported properly to a waste management site accepting hazardous waste. Fill the trap with water after maintenance.

The condition and functionality of the trap structures must be inspected at least every ten years. We recommend that the inspection be carried out in connection with trap system maintenance. The trap tightness and the condition of the covers must be inspected.

4.2 Covers

The mechanical condition of the covers must be inspected for any rust damage. The inspections ensure that the trap structures are intact. Inspecting structural soundness is carried out in connection with emptying.

4.3 A part of the system is damaged or broken

Please contact the product seller if any part of the system has been damaged or broken.

5 PRODUCT RECYCLING AND DISPOSAL

The transport packaging of the product can be processed as waste-to-energy. Intact products may be cleaned and recycled for re-use when they are no longer needed.

Any product taken out of use must be disposed of in accordance with the current regulations and instructions. Check the current disposal instructions from the local waste management company.
