Page 12: Mills Pond Park Softball_rules

12

Due to the nature of sports competition, situations result in which players, spectators, coaches, and/or teams are eject-ed from sport contests. These guidelines are a reference for the range of suspensions that will be issued if individual(s) are ejected from a sport or site.

2.2 The Pitcher’s Box– Hing up the Middle The Pitcher’s Box is a rectangle area placed around the pitcher’s mound. Hitting up the middle at the pitcher is con-sidered unsportsmanlike conduct. If a batter hits a ball up the middle into the designated Pitcher’s Box area, the play will be declared a dead ball and the batter will be out. Any incidents are subject to the player’s ejection from the game. If the pitcher is not within the confines of The Pitcher’s Box when the ball is hit up the middle there is no call and the ball is in play. Any ball that is hit in the air over two feet above the pitcher’s head is considered a fair ball. The call is considered a judgment call and cannot be protested.

2.3 Collisions Whenever a tag play is evident, a runner must slide or seek to avoid contact with the fielder and / or catcher. Attempting to jump, leap, or dive over the fielder and / or catcher is not interpreted as seeking to avoid contact. Malicious contact shall supersede all obstruction penalties. The runner shall be called out and may be ejected from the game at the umpire’s discretion. When enforcing this rule, the umpire should judge the runner’s intent. If the umpire feels that the contact was unintentional, then the runner should only be declared out. If the umpire feels that the contact was intentional and / or malicious, then the runner should be declared out and ejected.

17

In the event of rain or any other unforeseen circumstance, a game may be considered official after 5 innings of play, or 4 ½ if home team leads. This rule applies for playoffs as well.

After 5 innings of play, or 4 ½ if home team leads, no sub-stitute players can be added to the game unless an inju-ry has occurred.

Each batter will start with a one-one count with an extra foul.

E. All games tied at the end of the regulation game will be played to completion using the Kansas City tie breaker (3.6) 3.6 Kansas City Tie Breaker If the score is tied after seven innings or the time limit expires the offensive team will place the last official out on second base. The next batter in the lineup will start with a full count (one pitch). This procedure is repeated until a win-ner is declared. 3.7 Game Time A. All games will be scheduled on the hour with a time limit

of one hour and 5 minutes or 7 innings, whichever comes first.

B. Umpires keep the official time. It is the coach’s responsibility to get the start time from the home plate umpire so there is no discrepancy at the end of the game. The game time should be posted.

C. Playoff games are scheduled for 1 hour and 5 minutes after the roster has been checked.
