PAGE 1 MARAUDER FOOTBALL GAME NOTES ABOUT THE GAME Millersville looks to bounce back against Lock Haven after last week’s last-minute 33-28 defeat at the hands of Assumption. Lock Haven suffered a 48-6 loss at Division I FCS program VMI in week one, so both teams are in search of the season’s first win. Audio can be heard on the home of Millersville Athletics, the Marauder Sports Broadcasting Network (MSBN).The broadcast, featuring play-by-play announcer Domenic Panza, can be accessed at www.millersvilleathletics.com. The audio will also be the backdrop for the live video which can be watched at www.millersvilleathletics.com/streaming. The Marauders employed an efficient and big-play passing attack against Assumption, totaling 310 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Quarterback Bill Shirk turned in his second career 300-yard game on 22- of-32 passing. Millersville should be able to keep the aerial assault rolling against Lock Haven. VMI threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns against the Bald Eagles in week one. Shirk’s 22 completions marked the first time he completed 20 passes in a game since Sept. 12, 2009, and it was his first 300-yard effort in over a year. The Maraud- ers will also try to get transfer running back Mike Jones rolling. Expected to make an immediate impact, Jones displayed all-around ability, catching four passes in addition to 46 yards rushing on 14 carries, but he was unable to create explosive plays on the ground. His longest run was just 12 yards. Lock Haven was stout against the run in week one, holding VMI to 47 yards on 23 carries. The Marauders’defense endured a difficult week, allowing 33 points and 130 yards rushing against Assump- tion. The Marauders ranked last in the PSAC in rushing defense a year ago but after one week this season, they are eighth in the 16-team conference. The 348 total yards allowed places them eighth in the league in total defense as well. Those numbers are likely to improve as Lock Haven has struggled offensively in recent history. The Bald Eagles managed one touchdown in week one, marking the 12th-straight game that they failed to score more than 15 points dating back the start of the 2008 season. EAST MEETS WEST Saturday marks the beginning of the mandated three-game PSAC crossover schedule. Millersville, a member of the PSAC Eastern Division, has faced at least one Western Division team each season since 1992. The full, three- game crossover began in 2006. Since then, the Marauders are 3-9 against PSACWest teams, and two of those wins have come against Lock Haven. The other win came against Indiana (Pa.) in 2006. Coach Greg Colby is 0-6 against the PSACWest in two seasons at Millersville. The PSAC split into divisions into 1960. Millersville has never played new PSAC West additions Mercyhurst and Gannon, but it is 53-96-4 all-time against the original seven (Shippensburg, Indiana, California, Edinboro, Slip- pery Rock and Clarion). Millersville has a losing record against six of the seven teams, and its record against Clarion is 6-5. With 24 (7-16-1) all-time meetings, it has played Lock Haven more than any other current Western Division member.
