The West Bank
Sporadic attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians continue, primarily in the
form of rock throwing and rioting but including IEDs and knife attacks. In
addition, large quantities of arms, including mortar shells, hand grenades,
‘M-1 Rifles’, a berretta pistol and knives, have been discovered on
Palestinians or turned over by Palestinian Security Forces. These incidents
reflect the repeated attempts to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel's
civilians and soldiers.
Palestinian Security Force operations in the West Bank continue and should
be encouraged but their scope and quality must be still increased. Israel will
not compromise its security and when necessary, the IDF takes actions to
prevent terrorist actions from being carried out. Terrorist attacks jeopardize
the positive development which has taken place so far in the region.

The Gaza Strip
Defining TrendsDefining Trends
On June 20th, the Israeli government announced that its policy regarding
the Gaza Strip would be updated. With the exception of weapons, war
materiel and problematic dual use goods, the transfer of all goods will be
permitted. Transfers have already been expanded by 30% and will continue
to rise.
Despite this, terrorist activity continues. During the past two weeks, 5
rockets have been launched toward Israeli territory, a large amount of
explosive devices were discovered and there have been numerous attempts
of Palestinians to carry out terrorist attacks against IDF forces. This has
been accompanied by sporadic RPG and light arms attacks.
In response to rocket and mortar launchings, the IAF targeted smuggling
tunnels and a weapon storage warehouse (25.6, 28.6). The IDF will continue
to operate firmly against anyone who uses terror against the State of Israel.
Hamas alone is responsible for maintaining peace and quiet in the Gaza
Strip.

June 20th - Following a reassessment by the Israeli government, it has been decided (20/6) to liberalize the system of transfers to the Gaza Strip, in effort to aid the civilian population in Gaza. The new mechanism is a product of the two underlying goals – ensuring fundamental Israeli security interests while minimizing the impact on the local Palestinian population. Transfers have already been expanded by 30% and will continue to rise.
