The top scores in each section of each test will be recorded and used in the admissions packet. Encourage your athletes to sign up early in their junior year and take the tests as often as they like. If scores are low, take the test again!

PSAT scores may be used in determining pre-candidate qualification but will not count toward admission

Medical Evaluation (DoDMERB):You will receive a letter from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board, known as “DoDMERB.” It will give you the location and date of your exam. You will be scheduled at a civilian medical facility or at an Army, Air Force or Navy facility near your home. Afterward, DoDMERB will forward the test results to you.You can track your medical status at https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil.

Tip:  Take your medical exam as soon as possible. It can take several months to get qualified, if more information is needed. If you haven’t been scheduled by DoDMERB by the fall of your senior year, contact the Admissions Office.

Note: Most gymnasts will be disqualified due to medical history. This disqualification will trigger the appeals process. It is the natural order of things to have to suffer through this process.

Extracurricular Activities – Leadership positions:Since the purpose of West Point is to educate and train young men and women to be officers in the U.S. Army and lead Soldiers, you can understand the importance of the third area: LEADERSHIP PREPARATION. To demonstrate your potential as a leader, you should participate in extracurricular activities during high school that provide valuable leadership experiences and responsibilities. There are countless activities in school and community organizations in which you can be involved, such as class, club, or student government organizations; academic societies, such as the National Honor Society; athletics; public speaking, scouting, or JROTC … The list goes on and on. But remember to always seek out leadership positions in the activities you choose, because USMA considers it more valuable for you to achieve distinct on in a specific activity than to participate in numerous activities without any evidence of leadership achievement. If you have to work to provide financial assistance for your family, USMA views that experience as a demonstration of your leadership potential, even though it limits participation in other activities.

Take Challenging High School Courses:These suggested courses cover all four years of high school and will give you a very solid academic record. Remember, these are only our suggestions — you might need to modify them for your own situation. We give special consideration to students who earn excellent grades in honors and advanced placement classes. • Four years of English including college preparatory courses in composition and speech • Four years of math including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and functional analysis

if available • Four years of laboratory sciences including biology, chemistry, physics, computers and

additional courses in the sciences • Three years of social sciences including history, economics, government and behavioral

sciences • Two years of a foreign language (note that all cadets at the Academy must take one of the

following languages): Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish • One year of computer science

Recruited Athlete – The Blue Chip:

• Each program has a limited number of blue-chip slots per year.

• It IS an advantage to be a blue-chip athlete…Not because the standards are lowered but because these athletes will have yet another advocate in the process of securing an appointment. The NCAA Liaison to the Admissions panel of each Service Academy will be directly responsible for ensuring that the Coach of any NCAA D1 program at a Service Academy will have knowledge of his / her recruited athlete’s status at any given moment of the Admissions process. This is an advantage because now the coach will know the status and can deliver counsel to his recruit during the admissions process.

• Understand also that a coach may recognize that an athlete has the profile to be able to get in without blue-chip status and may elect to have this athlete go through the admissions process without blue-chip status because it will help to broaden the roster. This athlete can get in through the ‘Front-Door’ and walk on to the team. Remember that everyone who is granted an appointment is on full-Scholarship status.

Each branch of the Armed Services may support candidates in their respective WCAP programs

• Support is generally for two years prior to an Olympiad with a possible additional year if the qualification process for that Olympiad requires it.

• The athlete must be a legitimate contender and be currently on or in contention for National Team Status.

• WCAP status may extend your service commitment.• WCAP status may negatively affect your military career.• Eventually, your Nation will come calling.
