The Milford Police Department has recently taken complaints from residents who were targets of computer scam art-

ists. The caller will try to convince you there is a virus inside your computer and try to get a password. This will allow

remote access to your computer which will create risks to all your stored accounts, passwords and email. Additionally,

they may try to sell you useless software to protect against viruses.

If you get a call from someone who claims to be a tech support person, hang up and call the company yourself on a

phone number you know to be genuine. A caller who creates a sense of urgency or uses high-pressure tactics is proba-

bly a scam artist.

Keep these tips in mind:

Don’t give control of your computer to a third party who calls you out of the blue.

Do not rely on caller ID alone to authenticate a caller. Criminals spoof caller ID numbers. They may appear to be

calling from a legitimate company or a local number, when they’re not even in the same country as you.

Online search results might not be the best way to find technical support or get a company’s contact information.

Scammers sometimes place online ads to convince you to call them. They pay to boost their ranking in search

results so their websites and phone numbers appear above those of legitimate companies. If you want tech sup-

port, look for a company’s contact information on their software package or on your receipt.

Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone who calls and claims to be from tech support.

If a caller pressures you to buy a computer security product or says there is a subscription fee associated with the

call, hang up. If you’re concerned about your computer, call your security software company directly and ask for

help.

Never give your password on the phone. No legitimate organization calls you and asks for your password.

Put your phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry and then Report Illegal Sales Calls. Go to:

https://www.donotcall.gov/ or https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2.

If you have responded to a scam or believe that someone may have accessed your personal or financial information,

visit the FTC’s Identity Theft Website at http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/. For further information contact the Milford

Police Department at 248-684-1815.

Art on the River Festival July 19, 2014 ~ 11am-7pm

Located at Dodge Park #5 in Commerce, the Art on the River Festival was created by the Huron Valley Council for

the Arts to provide an opportunity for the community at large to experience and interact with all aspects of the arts.

With music, storytelling, artistic demonstrations and culinary options on site we seek to create a unique and inviting

environment for visitors to enjoy.

Artisans are encouraged not only to display and sell but also to educate visitors and demonstrate their artistic talents

in order to connect with their customer. In addition it is always the mission of the HVCA to provide quality, afford-

able opportunities for Michigan artists to exhibit and sell their original work. This collaboration between quality

and affordability is something that as the HVCA feels is missing from today's artisan opportunity landscape.

We hope you will enjoy being a participant in this year’s event and look forward to working with you to create an

enriching experience for both the artists and the visitors. Apply online at www.huronvalleyarts.org, for additional

information 248-889-8660. 2014 Artist applications are now available.

Election Day Information

Something new to you and us this year: On Election Day we will be using laptop computers to issue voters a ballot

instead of a paper poll book. This new equipment was purchased by the Michigan Bureau of Elections with grant mon-

ey from the Federal Government (Help America Vote Act of 2002) and is used throughout the state. The new equip-

ment is designed to expedite the process to issue voters a ballot once election inspectors gain more real-time experi-

ence with it. We kindly ask for your patience on these Election Days while we familiarize ourselves with the new pro-

cess and equipment.

If you are in a hurry to fit voting into your day, please keep in mind that lines are usually the longest from 7:00 – 9:00

am and 5:30 – 7:30 pm. If you think you will be away from the community during the time the polls are open, you

should consider voting an absentee ballot. Contact the Township Clerk’s office at 248-685-8731 to request an absentee

ballot application. Once we receive your completed application a ballot will be sent to you.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Voting

You must be registered to vote at least 30 days prior to Election Day and be 18 years old on Election Day to be

eligible to vote in that election.

It is not necessary to bring your photo ID with you to the precinct, but it will expedite the process to issue you a

ballot.

All voters in line at 8:00 pm when the close of polls is publically announced will be given an application and be

able to vote.

The Clerk’s office is always open the Saturday before every election to issue and accept absentee ballots. 2014

Saturday hours are 10 am until 2 pm.

at the cemetery for making this project a huge success

by donating over $30,000 since 2011! What a beauti-

write “fence donation” in the memo section of your

check and send it to Milford Township, 1100 Atlantic

Are you interested in serving as an election inspector? Please contact Holly Brandt to obtain an application and in-
