MILAN BRUSHES

Our paint brushes can be distinguished from others through the type of hair used and the fact that they are handmade. In recent years we have

combined innovations in the sector with traditional techniques in order to offer a wide range of quality paint brushes for different types of customers:

school pupils, pre-university level students, university students, and for those involved in handicrafts and fine arts.

THE HAIR Each customer can choose between ranges made from natural fine hair, animal bristle or synthetic filament, all of different qualities. Round brushes, brushes with a rounded point, flat, short and long paint brushes and filbert brushes, as well as brushes suitable for stencilling.

THE FERRULE The ferrule is the metallic part which holds the hair onto the handle. All our paint brushes are made with seamless ferrules: aluminium ferrules, nickel-plated and chrome-plated brass ferrules (made with rust-resistant polished brass) and nickel-plated tin.

THE HANDLE Birch handles with different varnishes according to the series, in natural pine colour, Scots pine and walnut. We also have handles that are dyed a particular colour, depending on the series, in blue, orange, green and matt black tones with a silvered tip, and plastic handles in some series for school pupils. The short handle is suitable for watercolour painting, and the long handle is better for oil and acrylics. We indicate our brand, the series number and size on all our handles, together with the bar code on the rear.

School brushes

Series 101, 111, 121 and 131 PONY HAIR Our paint brushes are made with pony hair which ranges from light to dark brown. The soft cylindrical hair is principally used for school grade brushes. Their softness makes them suitable for use in watercolour and tempera techniques.

Series 212 GLUE BRUSHChungking bristle brush, highly resilient and durable for school use. This brush, with a plastic handle and ferrule, has been designed for applying glue. To make it easier to use and clean, the ferrule of this paint brush has a plastic guard that prevents it from becoming fully immersed in the glue pot. Series 213 ERGONOMIC BRISTLE PAINT BRUSH Chungking bristle paint brush. This paint brush is characterised by its ergonomically designed handle with a flat base that stops it from sliding across the surface of the work. It is very easy for young children from 3 years of age to hold. Series 1311 SPONGE PAINT BRUSHESSponge paint brushes for the application of watercolours and tempera. They are ideal for painting backgrounds on paper, canvas and wood. Recommended for use by children from three years of age.Sponge paint brush, blue plastic handle, 5 sizes: 0 (smooth, 25 mm), 1 (smooth 70 mm), 2 (horizontal stripes, 70 mm), 3 (vertical stripes, 70 mm) and 4 (toothed, 70 mm).

Students and handicrafts

Series 311 and 321 SYNTHETIC HAIRThe 311 and 321 paint brushes are made from a mixture of polyester filaments 0.10 mm in diameter which are light golden brown in colour and darken at the tip, imitating natural hair. The synthetic fibre makes the paint brushes very resilient, smooth and durable. They are suitable for watercolour painting and gouache, although the resilience of the brushes’ fibres also make them suitable for use by students using acrylic or oil techniques and for craft work. Series 311: Synthetic paint brush with fibres that are light golden brown in colour and darken at the tip, imitating natural hair, round, nickel-plated brass ferrule, short handle varnished in walnut. 18 sizes from 0 to 24. Series 512, 522 and 531 BRISTLE PAINT BRUSH FOR STUDENTSPaint brushes made with Chungking bristle. The bristle provides a high degree of strength and durability. This type of bristle is distinguished from others by its firmness and solidity. It is especially used for oil painting. The brush collects the paint in the space between the bristles, making it suitable for work with thick or textured paint. It is also used for priming work in acrylic and oil. In addition it is used for work involving a variety of media and the application of varnishes. These brushes are recommended for young fine arts students.

Series 522: Chunking bristle paint brush, flat, seamless aluminium ferrule, long handle varnished in natural pine. 12 sizes from 1 to 12.

Series 531: Wide brush made with Chunking bristle, nickel-plated tin ferrule, short handle varnished in natural pine. 7 sizes: 25-80 mm. These wide brushes are particularly suitable for backgrounds in acrylic and oils and for applying varnishes.

Series 1321 SPONGE BRUSHES FOR HANDICRAFT WORK

Dark coloured sponge paint brush. This paintbrush is suitable for painting backgrounds in watercolours and for drying the surface, as well as for applying media and for priming (gesso). It is also recommended for handicraft techniques, such as painting on silk, the application of paper in decoupage, work on wood and Batik techniques. Series 621, 622, 611, 612, 631, 641, 642 PREMIUM SYNTHETICThe synthetic hair offers great softness and resistance to the brush. The polyester fibre gives the strength needed for working with resins and acrylic mediums. Thanks to their good characteristics and versatility, these series are very much appreciated by Fine Arts university students

Series 631: Premium Synthetic Flat brush, brass ferrule, short black and matt silver handle. 7 sizes 25-80 mm.The Premium Synthetic Flat brushes are for painting backgrounds using any artistic technique.

Series 711 FINE SELECTIONThis synthetic brush with selected filaments is specially designed for water colour techniques. Its hair is extremely soft and it offers an excellent alternative to natural hair. Thanks to their characteristics, the polyester filaments perfectly absorb both water and paint. The synthetic fibre gives long-lasting resistance and elasticity to the brush.

SERIES 912, 922 and 942: CHUNGKING BRISTLE PAINT BRUSHESHigh quality Chungking bristle paint brushes, with interlocked bristles. These series of paint brushes have been designed with oils, acrylics and textures in mind. The bristles, which end in a characteristic natural curve, are characterised by their resilience and elasticity. The natural shape of this paint brush picks up thick or textured paints perfectly. The paint brushes maintain their shape perfectly and are highly durable.

SERIES 812, 822 AND 842: SYNTHETIC PAINT BRUSHES FOR ACRYLICS AND OIL

Paint brushes made with synthetic hair with 0.20 mm thick filaments, dark reddish brown in colour. The hair of these brushes is characterised by its flexibility and resilience. They are particularly suitable for use with thick or textured paint, acrylics and varnishes. These series of paint brushes keep their shape perfectly with use, adapting to techniques used when working with thick or textured paints. Their ergonomically designed handle, hexagonal in the upper part of the paintbrush, makes them easy to hold.

Series 812: Synthetic hair paint brush for oil and acrylic, round with a fine point, nickel-plated brass ferrule, long varnished handle. 13 sizes 0 – 24.

Series 1011 and 1021: OX HAIR PAINT BRUSHES Paint brushes made from light brown ox hair which comes from the inside of the animal’s ear. The hair is characterised by its good absorption of water and paint, which it spreads uniformly over the surface of the paper. The paint brushes in this series keep their shape well, are resilient and durable. Because of the nature of the hair the points of the brushes are uneven. The flat brushes are ideal for painting backgrounds and with watercolours. They are recommended for watercolour paints and gouache.

SERIES 1211: PAINT BRUSH FOR WATERCOLOURSPaint brush for water colours, made from Siberian squirrel, brown with a very fine point. The hair is very soft and absorbs water and paint very well, distributing it evenly over the surface. The hair for this paint brush has been arranged by hand in layers to produce a fine point. This fine point is excellent for detail and watercolours. It can also be used to absorb excess water and colour from the surface of a painting. This paint brush with its soft flexible hair easily regains its shape. The metal ferrule has been replaced by one of special plastic that preserves the soft squirrel hair. This ferrule, based on traditional paint brush manufacturing processes, cannot be used with strong solvents. It is ideal for watercolour techniques, especially detail and fine brush strokes. It is also ideal for tempera and work in the field of illustration.
