EngineeringFrom conceptual study to implementation
Metso Engineering for Conceptual studyA conceptual study is the high level, low cost identification and evaluation of potential business opportunities. The aim is to develop process solutions to achieve your long-term production targets. The study shows whether or not there is a business case that exceeds the investment criteria hurdle. You will get an initial indication of project worth and if additional exploration and/or test work is justified.
We analyze the key parameters for input, production and output, and establish an optimised scope. After this phase of the study you determine whether or not to proceed to the next phase; a Pre Feasibility study.
Our methodology is based on our process expertise, and the conceptual study includes site audit, ore characterization, process flow diagram development, conceptual study and a brief summary report.
Our engineering offerings are built on a systems approach to the design and implementation of solutions, and are underpinned by deep process expertise. Our process and equipment know-how is integrated into our automation solutions. And our long experience in servicing equipment and plants is built into the plant design.
Metso Engineering for Pre Feasibility studyThis is the first step towards a plant design. The client delivers global project requirements, such as production capacity, project schedule, product quality required by the market and constraints. Metso studies the alternative technical solutions and develops the recommended process for the ore samples from the deposit to be mined. The ore samples are analysed in mineral laboratores to assess mechanical properties and mineralogy.
Based on this, the most suitable process is designed and the most efficient mineral recovery, dewatering and product upgrade technologies are chosen. Now the flow sheet and mass balance are known and mineral recovery efficiency and product grade can be specified. A plant layout drawing is developed.
9Engineering an in-pit crushing solution always includes integration with mine planning and mining logistics.

Implementation We will deliver all the materials sourced from Metso and our product lines will provide supervision for process equipment installation and commissioning. The recommended spares and wear materials are supplied as the plant nears completion.
At this stage the project will have spent most of the capital and it is urgent to start generating revenue from its operation. Metso offer assistance with process commissioning and process automation optimization for a fast production ramp up. We will design and implement automation systems. Operator training then leaves the client ready to close the Metso implementation contract, and hand the responsibility to Metso operational service support for trouble free operation.
Metso Engineering for Feasibility studyAn extended study is performed on larger ore samples to minimise the risk of not reaching the specified process performance. Based on the assessed risk of the process design, a pilot plant may be designed and operated for a longer period of time.
The processing plant for the chosen process solution is designed. A process description, instrumentation list, control system philosophy and design are developed. The plant is now designed using the process equipment layout, foundations, piping, steel structures, electrical diagrams etc., all adding up to make up the full engineering documentation package.

AutomationA prerequisite for maximum production and consistent product gradeWe are experts in automation and mineral processing technology. And above all, we are experts in integrating automation systems with Metso equipment.
PCD Process Control DiagramIn a first step towards automation PCD - our engineers study the process design and operational data. This may require a process audit to assess key parameters and process dynamics. Motor control (MCC) facilities need to be audited or
designed, to ensure that motors for conveyors, pumps etc., can be started and stopped and which require variable speed drives.
Based on mass balances and other data, the instrumentation required to effectively control your process is chosen. It requires experience to choose the instruments that are fit for purpose as they vary greatly in price and performance.
DCS Distributed Control SystemA DCS system means that process data is monitored, analyzed and presented where it is needed, allowing for stable operation and improved production.
